It's not just "pine" smoke either with all the houses and structures burnt.

Yeah, the pine smell was very minor. The toxins in the remaining smoke is much more than tree smoke.

That has to be real bad if you have COPD like I have.

Man that looks bad. It would seem they don't have enough firefighters and equipment. Could not the US government send firefighters from our northwestern states? I know it would cost a lot of money to get them there, but this is a serious situation.

The Russians offered their air tanker and it was turned down by Mr. Trudeau, the Prime Minister.

Sometimes more help is less help. I watched two helicopters load water on the news this morning. Last thing they need to worry about is not speaking the same language......

Probably different types of equipment would get in each others way due to operating parameters. I took a look on Google earth, and there is a lake with a two mile clear stretch about 25 miles from the fire. A dozen 215s in a racetrack pattern could dump a load every about every minute and a half and be very safe and effective, it seems.

All of the air operations on a fire big or small are under the control of an single aerial attack supervisor. This individual has responsibility for both the fixed wing and helicopter resources. It is also up to the supervisor to determine if additional resources are needed or if they have as many as they can practically use. There is a very small group of specialists who have the knowledge and skills to do this job, believe me they all know each other and probably have worked together in the past.
I have had the pleasure of getting acquainted with one these individuals in the last couple of days, he just retired this year after a lifetime of doing this job all over the U.S., he is having a very difficult time getting his head wrapped around the fact that his health has forced him to retire. He told me this morning that he still fights wildfires in his head every night. This is the first season he will not be fighting fires since he came out of retirement in 1980!

While I usually consider politicians to be experts in hot-air, not in this case.

It's easy to turn down resources, when you are not working a fire-line.

I'm not a pilot, but AFAIK, English is the global air traffic control language - I can't see that being a problem with international crews coming in.
