scotter or bike, not even going to answer that.

my "scotter" gets around 40+ "putting" to work & city..Last time I want to cape cod (round trip) I went over 220 miles one tank. Not bad for 5.1 gallons.

A friend of mine used to ride something like that. He would ride up to you singing George Thorogoods' "Bad to the Bone". /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Most motorcycles are pretty fuel efficient these days; even my 750 lb. touring bike regularly gets 50 mpg and sometimes a little better. If the scooter is cheap, or really floats your boat then go for it - but please take a rider safety course if this is your first two-wheeler.

If you want to use gas price as an excuse to get a new vehicle, go for it.

If you want to do it to save gas money, run the numbers backward to see how many miles you need to drive the new vehicle before you break even. Don't forget annual plates and insurance and that you can only drive it while its nice and when you don't need to carry anything.

If you're doing it to save emissions, think about the emissions involved in manufacturing and distributing the new vehicle.

I'm starting to sound like my wife. Sorry.

Oh, and if you go the scooter route, make sure it can keep up with traffic for safety's sake.

I wouldn't buy it to save gas money.

A small economy car would get only somewhat worse mileage and be safer, more comfortable, and more utilitarian.

My old street legal dirtbike would get 98 miles per gallon off the freeway. You could do better with a different bike. Bikes are fun though.

I agree with you and jmc. If you are thinking about savings on gas, sure you will but factor in all the other "fees". Also in you buy the "america made" bikes, be ready for fixes, etc. Know knocking the bikes, just know what I see and all the issues.

Best bang for the dollar is an import bike, hand down (as you posted)

Again, you are saving in gas but you will never break even as jmc stated; unless you drive lots and lots of mile 365 a year. Maybe in 5 to 10 you will save a $1! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I will state that MPG vary big time on how you ride. I can get way over 50 mpg (near 60 mpg) if I drive like an old-man! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif If I want slow, I will buy a walker....
