Same about conserving electricity and electric companies!!!

Had an all electric vehicle awhile back... drove on the roads for free... a rebel without a clue. :p

States are looking at ways to TAX YOU for miles driven every day. Putting GPS in your vehicles. Because all the NEW energy efficient car's are using less gas the States are looking for ways to get higher taxes to compensate for tax revenues lost at the pump. So you will pay taxes on gas and be taxed for driving.

Yes this world is upside down.

Darned if you do Darned if you don't.
So if my little VW Jetta can get 47mpg on home produced UNTAXED biodiesel such that I don't pay the "State" for use of the highway do you view that as fair?
Or my Ford E350 on UNTAXED biodiesel?
Or my Ford F350 on UNTAXED biodiesel?
If I charge a modified Honda Civic Hybrid with solar panels, drive 50 miles/day and pay no tax, is that fair?

They've got to get the $$ from some place so we can drive our duallies down the highway and over the bridges.

In the areas I buy fuel I pay about $0.44/gal for tax, (National and State Gas Taxes (Fuel Taxes) in the United States - GasPriceWatch.com) no matter if I'm paying $3.54/gallon (yesterday) or $4.50/gallon like it was back in 2008 ( here) so now they get from about $.01 to $.03 per mile from fuel tax based on my driving. If I go to untaxed home produced fuel they get nothing and I still use the roads and bridges. So the rest of the taxpayers could pay for my use of the roads.

Sounds good for MY wallet, but unfair.

He is complaining that they'll be double taxing, for both the fuel AND for the miles driven with the fuel. So in your example, your biodesiel/solar vehicles would still be taxed unfairly compared to people who buy from the pump.

 I'm all for lower taxes... but I also believe in paying my way. I do believe that our road financing needs to be revisited although I'll resist any attempt to track where I go.

I'm with you Newbury, that is the way to roll.

Around here (ON, Canada) most people are too lazy to get out of their cars to even get a coffee, and sit on their duffs in a drive-through instead. All the while, complaining about the cost of gas !

What our governments are literally banking on is aside from a few TBN'ers, and a few other free-thinkers I've come across, most folks are way too lazy to put the ergs into creating their own power.

Jstpssng - unless you have some seriously hardcore hardware hacking skills (or carry your phone in a lead-lined bag), the safe assumption with a modern cell phone is that any phone feature (GPS, Microphone....) can be remotely activated. Locally, a divorce is proceeding, based on remotely obtained audio from a cell phone - in the news all the time, but this one is a couple of blocks away from me.

Just because you aren't paranoid...... Doesn't mean they are not out to get you..... :confused2: Rgds, D.

That's the point. I'd be paying only the tax for mileage, and not the current penny to three per mile I and other people who buy from the pump pay for fuel tax plus whatever mileage tax.
Or do I misunderstand your use of unfairly?

I don't view taxing it two ways as a bad thing if the roads, AND ESPECIALLY THE BRIDGES get repaired. I don't mind going around a pothole but I don't like having to get out to test a bridge because the county/state didn't inspect and repair it. Or some scrapper stole the supports and the locals didn't catch it. Scrap metal thieves stealing bridge supports Mississippi Business Journal

Apparently you missed the thread a few weeks ago about preventing government listening devices... oh wait, that was related to the black helicopter syndrome. ;)

Seriously I know just.what you're saying, although we have laws on this side of the border about listening in on cell conversations without a search warrant. Not that laws matter much, but it is harder to bring illicitly obtained data into.something as mundane as a divorce settlement.!

They'll play **** putting one in my vehicle. They will have about as much luck with that as they will putting a meter on my water well.
