Re: Thompson\'s Water Seal

that sounds like something they would put in the city code. how heavy is the pipe that was used for post? is it the same as used for chain link fence? i have seem people use transmission fluid instead of the thompsons or other brand of water seal, and it seems to work pretty well, but i don't know how long it last?

I thought I remembered that too.... But, every fence has a "finished side" so it would face the one who didnt ask for the fence(I guess)... Kind of a consolation prize for getting a fence you didnt request /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif..

Bird, that might also explain the random fence facing in your area too..

Personally, I dont think I would care either way... You would be able to add flower boxes or whatever you wanted, on the unfinished side since it has the boards to nail to... Who actually gets the better deal?????????? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Re: Thompson\'s Water Seal

how do you do any repairs or spray finish on the fence, without getting on your neighbors property, when the finished or best side is towards him?

Re: Thompson\'s Water Seal

can you tell me what size metal pipe is used on this fence? i guess i am going to have to put one up, and think the metal might be a better idea than wood post: maybe even sit them inside pvc pipe, thats set in concrete, so they could be changed if ever needed??

Re: Thompson\'s Water Seal

They're two and three-eighth inch O.D. galvanized, 8' long, set in concrete. But I don't know just what schedule or wall thickness they are.

Re: Thompson\'s Water Seal

Rick, I'm not absolutely sure, but I think Home Depot and Lowes have the pipe for the fence posts. We only had to add a couple of posts and the neighbor already had some spares from a fence (dog run) he had removed. But one of the posts had no cap, and when I was getting some brackets at Home Depot for a short stretch of chain link fence, I also bought one of the caps for that steel post. Of course, you may be able to beat their price. Just that little cap (Made in China, it says) was $.85.
