OK, now I'm trying to understand this better. Two vehicles traveling 30 mphs towards each other have a closing speed effectively equal to 60 MPH. Thus, I say the amount of energy transferred as far as momentum is concerned is 60 mph. I suggest it is not like hitting a wall at all unless the wall crumples similar to that of a Ford or Dodge truck. I would rather hit a truck at 30 mph then a immovable, non collasable solid wall. Sorry for the late come in here but this is a pet hobby horse of mine. It doesn't take physics or math to understand the basics. Just a bit of thinking.
2 vehicles (of near equal mass) colliding head-on at 30: Each will have a felt impact of 30 mph. Why? Because both come to a stop from 30 mph, not 60. The total energy is a function of 60 but it is shared by both vehicles, 30 each.

the truck might give you a cut or two......
the blonde will give you a black eye, scream for help, and some big brute of a guy will beat the crap out of you, and then have your sorry a.. put in jail...... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
