Hello- Looking to replace my Dads 40 yr old Kubota L235 to mow about 20ish acres of field in NH- I am going to buy used as we only use it a few times a year ( It is a summer place)- I am looking at a Massey 1735M and just saw the LS XR3135H go up for sale- It comes with Third function valve,Worksaver 48" Grapple, Quick Attach and Forks- I can get it for around $20K- Any issues with this model??- both have the loader-which do you think is the better tractor for same $$$$-- thks so much-

I don't have any experience with either tractor, however, there is a thread here on TBN discussing extremely frequent regens on at least one LS model. I think it's like every 2-3 hours, which is insane.

That is the 30-40 series with interim tier 4. The 31-41 series have a different motor and seems to be right at 50 hours most of the time. 650 hours on my XG3135H stripped down model from the XR models.

Id be concerned about a tractor that old with such low hours. Its been sitting, and machinery does not like to sit for long periods. Also, the big question in my mind, WHY was it sitting? Is it someone's lemon they are trying to off load?

As far as issues go, none really. I mean, you'll hear of people having one off problems with wheel bearings on the front axle, ECU problems with wire harness, etc. The most common problem is the ground connection. If you buy this LS, take the battery ground off the frame, grind down the paint, clean it, and put it back on tight with thread locker. Other than that these tractors are solid!

For $20k and low hours (assuming it's not a lemon) with all the extras, thats golden! Mowing 20 acres might be a challenge... well, if you've been doing it with a Kubota L235, then using the approximate same size LS wouldn't be any different. I'd step up in size, but thats me.

Let us know what you end up doing! And pictures.

So I spoke with the seller- He said he bought it to clear paths on his property- It was great for the wood chipper but way to big for normal use on the property- Of course he said he has had zero issues with the machine??- thks for all your input- Is there any specific questions I should be asking him??

looks nice, clean, has dual rear remotes and 3rd function, hydrostat, suspension seat, etc. (looks brand new in those pics)
I'd ask what dealer he uses (or just call the closest LS dealer) and see if they have a maintenance record on the tractor for major issues/repairs etc. Should be able to get the SN from the back tag when you view the tractor.
I'd ask to dive it around his property a bit, see how it feels, sounds and acts.
Check under the hood, look at the bolts holding it together, is there damage on them showing it's been split apart? Check the oil and hydraulic filters, have they been changed, or are they still painted on from the factory, etc.
Certainly looks good in the pics, maybe you found a good deal.

Thks so much- will call dealer on Monday-- How would you compare this to the Massey 1735M which I am also looking at used- The ones I found seem to have alot more hrs but still low- Under 300

Ask if any service has been done yet such as fluids and filters. If not it is due. Seems like very low hours, 45 hours in 5 yrs. is super low. I have the older 3000 series cab model and I put under 40 hours per year on it. Mine is 10 years old now.
LS3135 has an LS engine, Massey 1735M has the Shibaura engine (same as mine). I have not heard of any (or very few) problems with either. The under 300 hr. Massey is still like new too if around the same year. I'd have no problem with either if I were looking (other than no cab). I like heat and A/C depending on the season.

To echo what others have said already, ask if the 50hr service has been done. It probably hasn't, but will need it very soon. The 50hr service is simple enough, just follow the manual.

To compare it with the Massy 1735M is like comparing a blue golf ball to a red golf ball. They are practically the same tractor, with different engines, and either will likely serve you well. Look at the features of each and get the tractor that you like the best, with the features you will use the most.

But that LS... That a pretty great find, if there is nothing wrong with it. Check with the dealer.

I never thought I'd hear myself saying this but I think I would go with the LS over the Massey in this case. We have a Massey 1750m and there is a thread or two right now about how the massey seems to be dealing with some power loss issues when bushhogging for an hour or so.

I have an LS R4041 (Badged as a Case IH Farmall 40B) Shuttle Shift and it is a mowing beast. For bushhogging/mowing, I prefer it over the Massey which is a hydrostat.

My personal opinion is that you're looking at too small a tractor for 20 acres of mowing but it can be done. You will just get some good seat time. Buy something that has at least 30 PTO HP and you can put at least a six foot cutter or RFM on it.

If I were buying a tractor to primarily mow 20 acres, I would be looking at a Shuttle Shift, not a Hydrostat.

As far as it only having 45 hours, not hard to believe it at all. Guys buy tractors all the time and use them very little and then sell them. Just do the 50hr service as was mentioned.

Edit: I see now that the LS has 30pto hp, so though probably still a tad small, at least you can run a 6' bushhog or a probably a 7' RFM.

Ok I am your missing voice. I have XR-3135 C 2019 model. This tractor has been reliable without issue. My unit was ordered with backhoe. I have ran 7 ft disc mower Lely without issue with it. The turbo makes the 35 hp seem like 55 hp. I have 175 hours primary use is backhoe work. No issues with tractor I buy another if needed. Good value with strong drivetrain. I will tell you to use cab fresh if buying cab tractor. Critters don’t like the smell. I also use peppermint oil they don’t like that either.

About the only things I'd be asking are, "Will you take a check?", and "Will you deliver?"

Will 30HP at the PTO be enough?

Why do we think that 30 at the PTO will not be enough = My dads L235 only has 19.6 and that is enough to cover his 5 foot brush hog??- thks

None taken- I am a novice so I am sorry if it came across wrong- I was seriously asking why people feel I may need more- Just want to get the right tractor-

Everyone will always tell you to get more and bigger. My 35HP does everything I need. Just a tick short of reach on a double stacked hay trailer, have to finesse the center stacked round bales to the edge. I can always push them off with another bale if needed.

Because these days 200hp isn't enough for a grocery-getter so now you need 10hp/ft for mowing.
