Thanks for all the good information. I will continue to dig deeper into the posts to get a better feel for a Yanmar. Hopefully others will comment on the points that were brought up.

John

Some will likely mention the Vietnam reconditioned tractors. Japanese tractors that have been shipped to Vietnam, get rebuilt from 2 or 4 different tractors into one and then resold here in the states as "Reconditioned NEW". Several of the dealers here sell reconditioned tractors but they are good quality tractors imported directly from Japan and then alot of basic maintenance is done. They arent made new nor do they claim that. The dealers that post here are good guys from what I have seen. If you see a dealer somewhere claim that their tractors are recondtitioned to NEW condtion or zero hours because they totally rebuilt them, you should head the other way. The problem with alot, not all, but alot of the Vietnam recon tractors is the poor quality of the tractors. They take junked tractors and go from there.

I took mine off:)(side grilles) But from what I can remember, no. After I change the fuel filter (just changed oil), I'll put them back on.

From reading the forums before using the tractor much, all the racket used to make me worried something was wrong. It's a lot like hanging out in a doctor's office thinking you got what everybody that comes through the door has.

There are some other differences though, The steering wheel is splined, I forget the number of splines. I ordered a 2000 one and it didn't fit. I think the seat is different too. Mine has some kind of slide mechanism mount. Oh yeah, the decals say 2000BD:)

Jerry,
I have searched the forum and internet and been unable to answer a question. Can you tell me what the "B" stands for in the model number of your YM2000BD?
Mike
The "B" models were made in 1979. Some of the things I have found that differ from the regular models in addition to what California and FL_Jerry mentioned are: Extended fender coverage, Clutch safety switch,Full instrumentation, Metal gas tank,Metal hood latches,Glass automotive type fuses, extended operator platform (more foot room),Radiator overflow bottle, adjustable seat with backrest, and my personal favorite, Chrome Gas Cap. Probably a few more differences I have either forgotten at the moment or haven't found yet. The radiator is a little different too, regular radiator will bolt in OK, but Fan shroud wont bolt to it. Engine side panels are off in the photo, but I always run it with them on.

I wonder if the B fusebox (glass fuses) is a bolt-in upgrade. Does it still use ring terminals on the wires, or did they switch to blade connectors at that point?

Think you've had enough good comments about Yanmar that all I'll say about mine is, I've had it for several yrs, use it reg. and have yet to experience my first problem.

Noted in your first post you mentioned blue or green. Be away the for these CUT's, ones inthe 20-30 HP range, most likely the Brand name/color is not an indication of who actually made it. Yanmar has been building JD's CUT's and sub-CUT's since the 80's.

Parts and service for Yanmars are as good as you'll find for some/many of the U.S. brands made during the same time period.

I have a YMG2000D, which seems to have all the added features of the B. Does the B have a 3cyl? the G does. As well, I recall seeing somewhere that the G is not as tall by as much as 6".

Anyone have any further insight on the G model?

There are numerous sites that have specs on yanmars. Try typing Yanmar specs or specifications on a search. I have a sheet that I printed out that gives a lot of information on the different models in table format. I know I bookmarked it but I can't find it now. It may have been a .pdf because there is no website address on the pages I printed. What this page shows is the G models are 3 cylinders @ 23.5 hp and the others are 2 cylinders @ 22 hp. The 2000 and 2000B was 69" tall, 100" long, and the G's were 53" tall, 104" long. And it only shows a YMG2000D. No engine model is listed. The 2000 and 2000BD's show a 2TR20A engine. If I find the link I will post it.

...and that same engine (2TR20A-X) in the US YM240 has an engine id plate that says 24hp @2400 rpm.

Didn't I read somewhere on this forum that the Grey markets are rated by PTO hp, or should I say PTO ps,(a ps is .98 of a bhp) and the US models were rated at engine HP? It really aggravates me when I read stuff and I go back to find it I can't remember where I saw it. :(
