Thoughts on Hobart welders???

/ Thoughts on Hobart welders??? #21
Hobart makes great welders. I can't comment on the smaller welders, but I have a 210 Ironman and it get alot of use working on trucks and equipment and it has been a great welder!

I have owned and used the Ironman 210 for several years and I am happy
with it. The only prob I ever had was a lousy rubber diaphragm in the
regulator. Miller sent me a whole new reg factory-direct, no questions
asked.

I used it on anything 3/8" or less, and my Miller Thunderbolt DC stick for
the 1/2" stuff I do.

I even used .035 Al wire in it successfully with Ar gas. No spoolgun.

Northern Tool has several Hobert welders at its returned goods store last time I was there. They looked new but returned marked defective. I wonder why they were not sent back to the manufacture for repair rather than give the customer back the cash ?
I recently sold my Miller mig 185 and looking to purchase a 250 amp machine. For the couple hundred more I'm going Miller or Lincoln. Just personel preference I guess. I see many other brand name welders for sale but it seems the Miller and Lincolns command the best price and sell quickly. I like to update frequently so for me it is better to have a brand that is very respected.

That is what I did also. Mine came with the cart, gloves, regulator kit, 2# spool of .030 wire, and hammer. I think it was $600 on sale minus discount so about $540.

I have a Handler 135 - the predecessor to the 140. I picked it up last summer on Craigslist for $150 (welder, tank, cart, some misc accessories). The gentleman I bought it from had used less than 1/10 of the spool of wire it came with. He claimed it "worked great, but he was used to a bigger welder". I brought it home, set it up, struck the first arc and thought I got took. Spit, spatter, just didn't work well at all. I thought about putting it right back on CL, but decided to look at the manual once. Long story short, the polarity was reversed (still set for flux welding). Changed that around and it is my go to machine! I also have an old generator welder - predecessor to a Lincoln Ranger. For big stuff, it can't be beat, but for little work, or a quick tack - I love not having to fire up the 18 HP briggs (muffler baffles wore out long ago!). If it was going to be your only welder, I'd probably agree on the 180 or 210. But if you can swing 2 welders, I love the portability of the 110V unit.

I had a 120 volt Miller, and sold it when I got a 240 volt machine. I wish sometimes I'd kept the old one too, it was a nice machine when it came to being portable.

I don't think you'll go wrong with the Hobart, I'm just stuck on Miller once I owned one. I really don't know what the difference is other than price..
