Hi all, was wondering what the general opinion was on the 80s KH excavators was. Occasionally I see a 10-15k lb one pop up for sale. Main concern is parts availability. Just looking at one as a toy.
Thoughts on old Kubota KH excavators?

I have a tiny little KH 5. I don’t know what the relationship was between Hitachi and Kubota at the time but mine is branded Hitachi. Built just like the big ones just smaller. I have only had to replace a couple of hoses. Hydraulic cylinders and most other parts are more or less generic. I would not be concerned about spare parts.
I have a 1990 kh-41. Its prety low hours 1600hrs yet a little work horse. Can get into prety tight places and still starts on 15f* mornings.
I see no major parts that have been replaced. I did change a drive motor seal. I believe it still has the original fan belt and see no signs of cylinders being repacked.
It was prety neglected when i got it. 4 or 5 zurks didnt takr grease, swing bearing grease hose was broke so that wasnt either. Rad full of dirt and fluids/filters of unknown age.
