That ridge fire is in Hayden idaho. Its about 1500 acres now. Being hit with lots of air and ground crews, but keeps growing. Heading towards montana as far as ive heard. Sorry. I hope it ends well.

Once you are packed and ready, I would recommend getting everything loose or flammable at least 50' away from your house, and to the extent you can, inside the house move things away from windows (like paper and curtains). If you have the water, hose down the perimeter of the house, and the roof.

For the last fire, we didn't have great escape routes, as in one narrow one, so when we got that notice, we took care of the animals, turned on the sprinklers at the house perimeter (I had them on a timer, 15 minutes on, 15 off, as I wasn't sure when the power would be cut and when the water tanks would empty), and left. Normally we have three routes to choose from.

I have seen those "escaping through flames" videos, along with the cars on the side of the road whose plastic air intakes melted, or whose engines died from overheated air. That is as close as I want to get.

All the best,

Peter

I think your ridge fire is different from our ridge fire. Yup, our ridge fire is about 1200 acres, yours is almost 3000 acres.

So far so good, we're still on Pre Evac status but now fire is 12% contained. Here is a fresh video of the heroes on the fire working hard. We have some fireweather warnings for Thursday with 97F and windgusts 25-30mph tho. So it is still very much dicey.

just had a level 3 evacuation a half mile from my house. luckily winds were blowing it away from us. they are hitting it hard with 5 aircraft. just had a Chinook fly right over my house...just above treetop. and 2 DC10 not far away. the black smoke is now all white, but cant see actual fire due to trees.

scary stuff

@TractorTYMe im glad to hear that your are still ok. That's quite the video. It really changes the options to have that much water nearby.

We just another had a fire break out today this afternoon a couple of miles from us. The local fire crews were on it in force quickly. After the last monster 300,000 acre fires, it feels as if the local fire attack groups are much faster to deploy resources, and better at it.

This is the third fire in three weeks within a couple miles. One of them burned for a week.

It is fire season.

All the best,

Peter

All the fires in my immediate area are out now. We got rain two weeks ago and the cool night temps have both helped a whole lot. I just hold my breath - hope we can slide into our normal damp fall with no more fires.
