Threats of forest fires.

We're normally on a burn ban by then end of June to first week of July. This year we're still green and wet going into August.

It's been raining the past two days, and supposed to keep raining off and on through Thursday

Just like earthquakes, I don't miss forest fires.

Helped a buddy once, we cheated but it worked, to get his dog team out and loaded up what we could. Luckily a church in a safe area set up a dog park for mushers to keep their dogs.

Caribou hunted once and a fire flared back up. Went to bed it was a great beautiful night, next morning couldn't see 100ft and you could feel the heat. Shifted in the night. We got the hell out of there.

Don't mess with a wildfire, it's not worth and odds aren't good for you.

Bugout bags packed and equipment stacked inside the garage door where I can load it quickly. Folding wire crates for the dogs, dog food, Air mattresses, sleeping bags, drinking water, trail snacks, just load and go. Documents will be fine in the fire safe, but a SD card with recent photos of the house and shop including contents goes with us for insurance purposes.

Island of Maui burning… communication down, sea and air rescue with medical overwhelmed…

Seems Fire knows no bounds.

Lahaina is burning.
Is the evac order island wide?

Friends texted and trying to get out… say smoke drove them to the ocean…

Never been to Maui and not familiar with the lay of the land… something about the commercial district at risk?

It amazes me how oblivious people are. We're within 9 days of setting the all-time record of days without rain, and temperatures over 100 are predicted for this weekend. It has been 98 days without rain, and the record is 104. This is timber country, but fortunately the fires so far have been small and could be controlled.

I started to chat about it on a local Facebook group, and everybody is sure this is normal. "It's always dry in the summer." Even in a rural county we have clueless urbanoids. I'm watching 30 and 40 year old Douglas fir die in the drought. You see stands of timber that have lost a quarter of their trees. That's not normal.

I saw a video of Lahaina Harbor burning. No fire boats. The historic business district had burned, and the Banyan is probably gone.

Here in middle Tennessee were getting storm after storm. We are expecting another severe storm tonight. Were getting so much rain my garden is dying from too much water. This is also unusual weather for here this time of year but its the opposite of the west coast.
