Hello everyone newbie here. I have a c47 century 159 hours the three point lift leaks down slowly then jumps up doesn't matter if anything is hooked to it or not. Has been into dealer several times for this problem hydralic piston and seal replaced one time then last time (two months ago) was told there was a scratch on the new piston. Has piston and seal replaced again. This morning had bushog hooked to tractor and it started doing the same thing again. Anybody have any ideas or having the same problem.

If the backer ring on the seal (on the piston) looks melted when removed, then your problem may be heat related. If so, it is normally caused by the three-point be operated all the way up, meaning the lever all the way to the top of the slot and driven that way. That causes fluid to bypass through the pressure relief. No big deal for momentary situations, but if driven around for a while that way the fluid gets hot enough to soften the backer ring and then you have this problem. The newer units have a stop near the top of the lift lever that keeps this from happening. Another culprit could be any additional dealer or customer installed hydraulics that are improperly installed.

Thanks Dave for the input. My tractor has the stop on the three point hitch
and also has no other hydralics installed. This and some other problems have been an ongoing issue. A friend of mine has a c38 century and his three point
hitch does the same thing only worse but his is very intermitten. I love this tractor but these problems over and over again are getting old. I thought the problem was fixed the last time but after about 2 months and 30 hours later its back again. I will call my dealer and see what he has to say.

I had a similar problem with my Kubota with only 25 hours on it.

My problem was a piece of metal chip in the pressure relief valve seat. The 3PH would just start jumping up and down no matter what you did then stopped lifting all together after several weeks of jumping. Some days it would be just fine and when you least expected it would start hopping.

Maybe your problem is in this area too.

Is the draft lock-out engaged and the draft control lever all the way forward?

Talked with my dealer today and he seems to thing something may be in the bypass valve or something like that. I mowed with the bushog about 2 hours this evening and could feel the three point hitch jump sometimes. I'm going to run it for a while and see what happens. I just curious how many people have had this problem with their tractors. The draft controls are all set where they should be.

No leakdown, but when I forgot to reset the draft controls the finish mower wouldn't go down, and sort of "jumped". It doesn't sound like this is the problem you are having though.

If you lower the implement all the way down, does it "jump" then?

How far does the 3 point leak down before it wants to come back up?

Micropilot

I got into a simular deal with the draft control. I haven't messed with it that much this time but it just does it when it wants to. I haven't noticed it doing it when the hitch is all the way down, but it will do it real close to being all the way down and other different places. I really don't think position has anything to do with the problem. I have to change mowers this evening from the brushhog to my finish mower and i will see if that makes any difference.
while i am mowing.

I have not had that problem, however if you look at all the old posts about hydralics problems, it allways seems to be an aftermarket hydralic filter installed, or just the need for replacment (OEM). Have you checked your filter?

I would love to know if that is your trouble!

I thought about something like a filter. When i done the 50 hour service i replace the filter with a factory filter and when the piston and seal was replaced 2 months ago my dealer said they check the filter and it was still
very clean. I mention to my dealer if there is something scratched the cylinder again then maybe we should completly drain all hydralic fluids and flush the system and replace filters and fluid. He thinks that may be a good idea.
