Not all tractors have the 3 holes in a vertical plane. Some top holes are more forward while some are more rearward. Another variable is the distance between the lower pins and upper pin on the tractor as well as the implements....they are ALL different. These variables will affect how the implement moves when raised and lowered.

I have read on one of the 8N Ford forums that it is to influence draft control. However many say just leave your top link in the ttom hole to lessen the possibility of damage to the lift mechanism. Some of the replies here have made a lot of sense.

I see a lot of tractors without draft control. And a lot more people that don't know what it is for.
