Throttle Cable

/ Throttle Cable #11
Yeah; I need to take a 2nd look at that... When the cable was disconnected at the engine (thus leaving the dash lever to move freely), it wasn't moving all that freely. There is a decent amount of resitance there.

I'll see about the possibility of tightening that some more, and see if I can achieve a desired outcome. Thx!

Tested today; it's working.

However, an annoyance before my cable broke is still there, and worse... I'll post a new thread about that; I think it's Deutz-specific.

The Deutz engine appears to have an internal spring on its throttle lever, that sends the throttle to low idle by default. Makes sense. However, it seems that the strength of that spring overcomes the throttle cable, thus always reducing the RPMs. The throttle lever in the dash never stays at full RPMs; I have to hold it there with my thumb.
There is a friction nut in there. On my 1445, it is accessible (just) from underneath, and you can peer into the slot in the dash to see what you are doing.

My throttle lever got sticky, so I lubed it, and then it wouldn't hold the rpms until I adjusted the friction plate/nut.

All the best, Peter

BTW: the Deutz "spring" is just the governor doing its thing.

So, I took a 2nd look at the friction adjustment. I was able to (just) reach a 7/16" nut. I turned it (about) 1/2 a turn, and it was too much! Settled on 3/8 of a turn for now, but it seems like another 1/16 of a turn would be best. (These are relative 'by feel' specs!)

Anyhow, I was pleasantly surprised by the results even if not perfect. I really didn't think playing with that nut would do much for me, especially since it was far from loose.

Thanks for the advice!!

That's great!

Yes, it doesn't take much, does it? After tightening, my experience is that it loosens up a little, perhaps due to irregularities in the plate getting worked smoother?

All the best,

Peter
