Throw Away Kubota!

Don't know if it would fit or has enough horse power, but Northern Tool has a 26.5 hp. diesel, water cooled, for $3,599.99. This is a Briggs Vanguard motor, not a Kubota. This motor is on page 49 of their summer master catalog. I have seen Kubota engines for sale at Northern in the past, you might check their web site. Hope this helps.

My B8200 is about an '86 manufacture. I have had no problem finding parts for tuneup and minor repair. To have easy parts availability for almost 20 years is pretty reasonable. And, I think you'll find, these machines are pretty hardy; for as large as this forum is, and the other forum, CTB, you don't hear of many major issues, especially with Kubota's.

My little B8200 was a pretty big expense. Not like a truck or house. But, as an around home utility device, it is the most expensive I have bought.

I do not think, and yes this is speculation, that my B8200, if I became so attached that it stays with me another 40 years, will be as rebuildable and have parts availability, like my 61 year old Farmall does now.

I would ask your dealer what the 15 to 20 year outlook is for major parts. Maybe, ask about an L175(1970's 2wd) and how parts availability is for them.

The Kubota is only 10 years old and you can't get a replacement engine or possibly parts. What a joke.
I bought a BX2200 and never paid much attension to this.
If you bought a John Deer would it be any different? Would Deer have a long block or a replacement engine? If the answer is yes, I'll never but another Kubota. 10 years is nothing, my Cub Cadet worked longer than that.

get the numbers off your engine and call Engine Power Source
they are one of the leading suppliers of Kubota engines in the East. I have used them many times and they are great!
They are located in Charlotte, NC, 1-800-374-7522

The lack of Kubota spares after 10 years when you need them highlights the difference between owning a genuine machine and a grey market one. A grey market one will give the reply of - We don't service these while a genuine machine you will get the reply - We know what you want but have not got one. Different replies same result - lack of service. In Australia we have a law called the trade practices act where importers and manufacturers are required to supply service and parts for the life of the machine. I think the life a car is defined as 10 years. I don't know what a tractors life is defined as.

I don't know how other tractor manufacturers support their older tractors. These are my comments regarding Kubota's support of their older products. I discovered these facts(?) when I had my older gear drive B7100 engine rebuilt as well as part of its mid-mower. These comments appear to be in agreement with the-g's experience.

(1) Whole component assemblies were no longer produced (FELs, mid-mower, etc)

(2) All replacement parts for all of the Kubota tractor and the tractor's implements were available, though not necessarily cheap.

For better or worse...

I think that it is good for Kubota to keep supplying parts for my 20+ year old tractor, and I suspect that the parts will be available for a while to come. I would like to see Kubota offer complete assemblies (FELs, engines, mid-mowers) for a longer period of time, but that is not something that would make me switch to another brand.

I think y'all getting all worked up over nothing, take your BX for example. Are you planning on wearing the engine out in 10 years?, I doubt it. Yeah, if you buy a 25 horse Craftsman you would be able to buy another "universal" engine but you would long since have needed a new unit entirely. JD uses Yanmar engines from Japan in their smaller units and have seen reports they have used some Kubota engines (say it ain't so), NH, now owned by Fiat Motor Company, ever try to buy parts for a X1-9 Fiat?
You guys have hardly done an exhaustive search for old Kubota parts, when the time comes that you need an engine for your BX I imagine you will find what you need, if not directly from Kubota from an outside supplier. Compared to an old Cub Cadet there just are not many old Kubotas yet, 20 years from now I think you will be able to find the parts. I came across a place in East Texas where there may well have been more than a hundred Cubs lined up neatly in rows, each rusted to a uniforn dusty red. I skidded the Tundra to a stop and jumped over the fence to look more closely, clearly these machines would never run again as they were missing major portions. Their wheels had sunk into the ground and surely they were being used for parts. I also showed an aerial recon photo of a tractor yard near my house where he had all the "colors" seperated into sections--very pretty from the air. A ground insertion into the compound revealed nary a single Kubota. I suppose that will change in time. J

Hey Darren, you think a Daedong engine would fit? They seem to look the same so it may not take much modification. Daedong has engines on their web site and they as far as I know are the same as the tractor engine eventhough they are used in generators ect. www.daedong.co.kr/english/index.html
