Hey Gray, the dealer I'm working with in regards to the L48 package I'm putting together recommended a Werk-Brau hydraulic thumb when I told him I wanted one - he said this is the company Kubota uses to equip their excavators with the same thumb. Have you heard anything, good or bad about them? Thanks...Tony

Here is a picture of my 10000# excavator with thumb lifting a stump.

Tony,

I have heard of them but no insights. It may fit the unit very well. Have you visited their sight? The dealer should be able to show you pictures of the thumb on some units.

Good piture of a mini excatator with a thumb doing the pull and carry thing. Very useful attachment. Very.

Are you a welder? If so, there is a low cost way of getting into a thumb? It is not a bad idea to get the whole thing right up front.

RayDiers, nice picture, that's exactly why I want one of those. Gray's pictures have motivated me to go for the option.

Gray, Yes, I've been to their site: www.werk-brau.com, and they have solid looking stuff. They have a ripper tooth I like the looks of too for stumps and rocks. I'm not a welder, and not particularly mechanically gifted, but I hope to learn as I go - at least enough to maintain a machine...Tony

Tony,

I took a piture today of the thumb folded up. Here it is.

BTW- I did see a good looking hydraulic thumb on www.mcfaulkner.com . It was so sweet I got a price on it. As I recall it was around 1600. They recommend using a foot controled valve.

No thumb yet but working on it.

Is that a servo selective valve or a separate hydraulic circuit for the thumb?

I put in the order for the thumb from M.C. Faulkner, and it will be ready in about 3 weeks, so about the time my L48 is delivered they will be ready to install it. They also have a great looking ripper tooth that they can fit to the thumb that I'm going to order tomorrow. Tony

Tony,

You sure have the fever.

The thumb will be great to have and the foot control is an excellent way to go. I was tempted to go that route but not ready to put out that much at this time.

You sure are going into the business full speed. I don't think you can get more options for your L48 except for a cab? Be carefull, it will get heavy with all these things on it.

The thumb will be great for you. the hydraulic aspect will make it even more functional. If I had the cash to do it- that would have been my choice. They are great looking thumbs.

Now all you need to do is wait. Sorry- just thinking in print.

Once in a while a tease is OK?

Good luck with everything.

Gray.

Yes, Gray, waiting is killing me /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gifp :The control of the thumb is going to be joystick mounted instead of foot pedal control. They are going to actually replace one of the joysticks with one they've designed that has the thumb controls built in, and run a separate hydraulic line to it, so that all I'll need to do is push a button /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Question: M.C. Faulkner needs to know the exact spacing of the teeth on the 12" and 24" buckets on the backhoe so that he can fabricate the thumb to fit exactly to the buckets. Does anyone know what the exact specs are for these buckets brand new from the dealer? Are they standard? I've sent email to my dealer asking, and I'm sure he'll get the info to me, I was just wondering if anyone knew. Tony
