Recent posts by escavader started me thinking how nice it would be to have a thumb attachment to help build a rock wall. I do not have the ability to make one … but there is a welder down the road.

Considering purchasing a thumb kit from CDP-Backhoe ( cdp-backhoe - located in Ontario, Canada). Cost is $269+45 shipping. Does anyone have any past dealings with CDP-Backhoe and what was your experience?

(escavader … do you have any plans to manufacture/sell your thumb as a kit?)

There is also Gearmore Adjustable Thumb for around $500

I purchased one from CDP a couple of years ago. The quality, fit and finish was excellent and more than expected. The only downside was, it was a couple of hours welding to get assembled. The welding wasn't the hard part it was making sure everything was lined up and stayed that way. On a BX I am sure their thumb would be overkill...........but that's a good thing /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

SCOTT,
That sounds like a good one,and it looks similar to mine. The only reason i built my own,was that we have no snow for snowmobiling and i was bored /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gifThe plasma cutter i used to cut mine out was not mine,so it was a one time deal.Make sure the thumb will adjust to different angles,90 degrees isnt relly enough. You could easly get a 3 inch piece of channel, and drill multiple holes to give you more angles.I really like my thumb, the bx-23 hoe, isnt far off in ststs from a small woods, they lift quite a bit.The best part is when its folded up you dont even know its there.Im in the process of plumbing mine,so it folds itself up. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have an L35 (earlier version of the L39) and would be very interested in knowing how the Bro-Tek works out for you. I like the idea of bolt on vs weld on but was unsure as to how well it would work. I too have contacted Bro-Tek but haven't yet sent the measurements to him. Please post after the install and let us know the results.
