You got that right. I think a major contributor to the pass problem is the law that says you cant exceed the speed limit while passing.
About three years ago, while coming home from the Catskills on Route 28 headed to Kingston, I was stopped by a state cop for "excessive speeding."
Huh? I passed a lookey-lou who then seemed to speed up, so I really floored it to be safe, I was ok, mile long straightaway and nothing coming. Then a
truck became visible coming at me so time to move over. Which I did, turn signals at all appropriate moments, and I slowed back down to two over.
Lovely little flashing lights. You were going too fast during that pass. How fast am I allowed to go? "Not that fast". that was sure precise and helpful.
Judge, jury and executioner, almost three hundred dollars later. I haven't put a scratch on a car in 47 years of driving, and I almost had to laugh at the poor state cop, his teeth chattering in the sub zero wind chill. Serves you right, if you are going to revenue me, enjoy the discomfort. I've had a few speeding tickets over the years, all on radar on interstates, and this was the most ridiculous one of them all. Not sure what the law is but you deserve a ticket anyway for me having to get out in the cold. It's a four hour drive back so as usual no way was
I going to contest this in their kangaroo court on Rt. 28. I grind my teeth a little because I have been supporting their local economy up there for over forty years. Thank you for acknowledging that State of NY.
