Tie down straps for trailer

Some won't allow that. Each chain must have a way to tighten it individually.
IIRC, its generally allowed as long as someone in the tow vehicle has a key to start the tractor and move it to re-tighten the chains.

I have seen many that chain down the front and simply back the tractor to flatten the tires and then chain the rear with the binder or binders.
Like mentioned couple of feet of old fire hose is a great addition. I even use some with my straps otherwise the straps wear down real fast on metal edges.

I've also seen whole lengths of old fire hose for sale on Auctions International when departments are updating or going out of business. Looked into this recently but the department selling the hose was too far away to make it worth the trip.

I also use six chains six binders. Driving against the back chains still use a binder. Easier to tighten than driving the tractor when everything else is tied down. And forestalls any highway patrol questions.

Agreed. Put a binder on every chain and its far less of a hassle to tighten things down. If your making a trip of any significant distance, your supposed to stop and check your tiedowns anyways. Its much easier to put another two turns on a ratchet binder or strap than having to loosen straps to move the load and re-position straps and re-tighten multiple bindings.

From the FMCSA
393.112: Must a tiedown be adjustable?

Each tiedown, or its associated connectors, or its attachment mechanisms must be designed, constructed, and maintained so the driver of an in-transit commercial motor vehicle can tighten them. However, this requirement does not apply to the use of steel strapping

I just ordered 4 ratchet binders with folding handles. Will go to my local farm and fleet for 10' or 20' chains ( 4 ea ) with hooks on both ends. Thinking i will get a shackle of app. size and put it on the draw bar and then run my chains through it...on the rear end ?

Thanks everyone for the comments...has helped me alot !!

Best place to get 5/16" G70 chain is Lowes. They have 20' ones for about $35 each and will cut them for free. Then all you, need to do is grab hooks for the other ends.

I actually used mine for years without a hook on one end. I used the hooked end to make the connection to the tractor and then ran the non hooked end trough the trailer tie down and then grabbed it with the lever binder and snugged it down.

When I did add hooks I did not use GRAB hooks, I put SNAP hooks on to make it easier to attach to my D-Rings on my trailer.

Ok...i got 3 20' G70 5/16 chains. Will cut one in half to have 2 10' footers. Also 4 Peerless ratchet binders. One 27' 3" strap for the loader. Put airlift 5000 ultimate air bags on my F150 for some extra lift. Think i got everything i needed....so come wednesday i will head south to get the tractor !

Something I found handy to have around are axle straps, 3,333 lb WLL (10,000 lb max), 2 or 3 feet long with flat D rings at the ends. They increase my options for equipment attachment points and also work with the square tube railings without scarring.
