Tier 4 Emissions delete

A new video as to what is happening with the EPA and their aggressive stance on Diesel emission deletes:

YouTube

The focus is on trucks but watch to the end (8:31 in) he talks about tractors.

At 2:20ish into the video, he talks about the EPA's National Compliance Initiative on stopping aftermarket defeat devices and the language of the new rules and the action of the EPA. The guy is reading from some article and says that the ruling against the tuner said something to the effect that all on or off road vehicles which were supplied with emissions equipment must not be modified... Listen to his words and check out the links he provides for more information.

Other posts in this thread have stated that the EPA is getting more aggressive. Those statements are correct. Be careful about posting of companies who can do emissions delete work. Don't name them and do not state where they are. The EPA is watching threads like this one.

I like the guy's speculation of what it would be like to have the EPA show up at a tractor pull...

Sort of like the State ag inspectors visiting farm auctions and dipping fuel tanks on diesel pickup trucks (for off road diesel). real common here and it's a first time fine of $1000.00. Second time, $5000.00. That is a bunch of diesel either way. While running ORD don't negate anything on a permanent basis or impact resale / trade in value, hacking the emissions controls on a T4 final engine does.

A hacked T4 final powerplant makes the unit unsaleable and if you do sell it under false pretenses (knowing it's modified) and the next owner gets pinched, you are still on the hook. It's called mitigating circumstances and the Fed will get in your wallet, big time.

I guess if you plan on keeping a unit forever it's all good but in 99% of situations, that don't happen.

The prudent avenue is purchase a used, well maintained unit that is pre-4. What I did. I don't worry about hacking or deleting as there isn't anything to hack or delete.

Besides, a pre-4 engine will last a lot longer. Emissions hardware and software put additional loads on an engine (excessive heat) so the engine's lifespan is reduced. How much is a crapshoot but I'm willing to bet they are less.

Finding and buying a good used pre Tier IV emissions tractor ALWAYS makes the search and wait worthwhile!

+1. My second one took me a couple weeks and a 600 mile trip. They are getting harder to find as people are getting wise to the emissions junk and, they hold their value extremely well. I lucked out with the one I bought, was at a Deere dealer taken on trade and the dealer had no idea what it was (I did) and I negotiated the price down and paid cash (18 grand) for it. Had it at my Kubota dealer this winter and asked the lead mechanic (who I'm personal friends with) to tell me candidly if I got it for a good price. His comment was I stole it. Nice thing was the Deere dealer delivered it to the farm too. Had them go though it and replace what need to be replaced and run the overhead. it's a very solid unit. I have an identical one to it but a cab model and I bought it new in 2004 and paid just under 50K for it. Bet I could sell it tomorrow for 30 and probably 25 for the other one. Neither are for sale. Might be in my will, but that's it.
