If you want to get real fancy you can get a CK torch with clear pyrex nozzles;)

Also makes a difference with aluminum and magnesium if you have much in the way of air currents in your shop.

I have to remember the "air currents" effect too. I do all my welding outside, on a concrete pad behind my house. It's the only place I have a 240v outlet, and it's the most fireproof place. I think it will probably be okay for TIG welding even though it's outside, because it's the exposed side of a daylight basement (used to be a garage, but was converted). The pad is surrounded on three sides by 10' high concrete walls, so there isn't much by way of wind in it. For TIG, I plan to stuff the welding table into a corner near the house, further reducing potential for breezes. But if I do run into any trouble maintaining coverage, a gas lens may help.

I use to have one of them, tripped on the lead, jerked the torch, and magnet holder onto the ground and broke the cup! :censored::banghead::muttering:
