I have had that happen, but not anymore. I demand to see installation and ask for them to be torqued. I had three lug nuts cross threaded by young kid using impact wrench with nut placed in socket! Owner then wanted me to pay for replacement!

Owner wanted you still Pay!!! BS on that one!
Yeah-- I WAS a long time customer and he said they were like that when it came in, even though he knew I was a certified mechanic.
Last time I ever bought tires from him.

Never too old to screw up. I just over tightened the bar nuts recently. I couldn't figure out why the bar was smoking........DAh-h-h-!.

Then I checked things out and discovered the bar nuts too tight. I couldn't believe that I had done that. Thanks for the thread to confirm my stupidity.

Cheers,
Mike

Yup, I know what you mean Giles. I had a mechanic that I thought was trustworthy, I went to him with all my car repairs for about 5yrs. He screwed me on two repairs on a Ford Windstar and that was it. I knew right down to the dime of how much those repairs including cost we be, he lied right to my face about it. And here I am picky as **** about who works on my vehicles to begin with...I guess it's back to doing my own repairs in my driveway..LOL.

I do all my repair. As long as I am able to lie down, get up and down, I will do my own work.
But, people like us can't do some jobs that require expensive equipment and sometimes it just makes more sense to have it done.
If shop won't let me see the work being done, and I know their reasons, and I go elsewhere.

Speaking of bar nuts...I just picked up used Husqv 372xp from yard sale...Score! The home owner had no business owning a saw of that caliber not to mention the house was in a suburb neighborhood, bar nuts were so tight it was like they were put on with an air wrench and then loctited, lol. Put a new plug, cleaned the carbs, tuned it, now I have 372XP in the arsenal...Time to wrip it!!!

Just came back from buying the 2.50 Stihl bar nut. Put on a new sharp chain, and forgot to tighten one nut after adjusting the screw. Chain was still cutting good - just lost the back nut in the woods.

That is quite the score, if you got a good price. The new units list for more than $900, and you can even get
heated grips and intake.

I have just converted the circular saw variant of the 372XP to chainsaw, and it is awesome.
