Tiller Tiller chain question

And I'll bet I know who sent those e-mails, too. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I had a chain drive Bush Hog tiller and used it a lot more in 7 years than most folks ever use a tiller. It had a self adjusting chain, and the manual did tell how to "adjust" or remove a link if it stretched enough to need it, but it never showed any need to do anything to it. Now I'm certainly not going to tell you that you can't break a chain, but I sure never needed a spare. )</font>

You know Bird....I felt like I had been spamed. Why direct me to a 2 year old post? Apparenlty the sender didn't think I would check up on it. I had already found that post with a search before narrowing down to 3 tillers.

I have a 44 inch chain drive tiller for my Kubota B7100 with 12 PTO Horse power.

It has been used on 50 year old sod in clay soil containing many rocks. [ Drumlin geography ] The chain has broken a few times and been replaced at least three times. It was/is used to cultivate about 10 acres. The slip clutch/ HP combination were such that adjustment of the clutch was not possible till half the tines were removed. A normal day [ 10 hours ] will probably see two or three broken tines and many buckets full of rock picked. I pick the rocks as I till.

My usage could be considered as extreme abuse.

Never used a gear drive tiller.





Chains are easy to replace and obtain. Don't know about gears.
