I was in need of a tiller for wildlife food plots, but since I would only use it sparingly, I sought to find a used tiller. Sometimes used works out sometimes it doesn’t in my case. It was the latter. In preparing the used tiller for operation it worked Fine for about five minutes and then when I hit a clump of Bermuda grass, it started making sorts of racket. I’ve discovered that the slip clutch had no pads installed, and what was remnants of melted pads. It was my mistake not checking the slip clutch before operating. The problem I’m facing now. I don’t think had anything to do With The slip clutch condition because I believe the damage in the gearbox was already done. The tiller I have is a TMG Industrial 84 inch tiller. So my question to the group is I know I’m going to have to go into the gearbox on this tiller. Has anyone done a gearbox repair before that could provide some guidance or recommendations. I’m anticipating that there’s gear damage inside. Best situation may be a keeper or key or something is not right. I just know when I’m turn the input shaft. It will turn the tines and then it will skip a bit and then continue turning. It could be just replaced the gearbox, but I’m just not sure how the gearbox will fit with the existing shaft to the transmission and or if I can just find a gear if the gear is broken and replace the gear I’ve just never been in a gearbox before again. I apologize for the length of this request, but that’s my dilemma. Any comments are appreciated.

Find the manufacturer and get the exploded parts diagram...then start opening her up to see what you see. There shouldnt be anything to complex in there.

Second the "open it up and see" advice. Lots of internal parts available for most brands, but new (China made unfortunately) are very available. I'd rather fix up an old one, than buy new...

A friend of mine bought one of those. I couldn't find much on it when he bought it and the site doesn't show that one.
