Been shopping around for a tiller for my 'Bota B7500 HST and I'm having sticker STROKE (way beyond shock). I was guessing $800-$1,000 (USA) for a 48-50" rotary tiller, but seems like $1300-$1400 is what they are selling for in these parts (Befco and Bush Hog brands). OUCH.
Any used ones around me in Eastern Ky? Heck I travel a lot so VA, TN, NC, OH, WV, IN are close enough for me to pick up.

Bo, even my 40" Bush Hog tiller cost $1,300 in '95./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif But of course, it's seen a lot of heavy duty use and still going strong with no repairs.

Bo,

Try Tractor Supply Company, they carry WAC & King Kutter tillers. I was lucky enough to find a used WAC that someone bent the tines on and returned it for a new one. I paid $350.00 for a 54" and put a coulple hundred in it. The guy at my local TSC said they sell used implements all the time. Good Luck!

theboman,

You are in the ballpark for a new tiller. For new, look at TSC/Quality Farm or the like for a less expensive tiller. Any of the others will be more expensive and maybe have a few more features.

The other possibility is to look for used at the dealers or go to some auctions.

Good luck.

boman,
I was at my local (Frankfort, KY) Quality Farm store last week and they had a King Kutter tiller, If I remeber correctly it was $995. Do not know any specifics, it was on clearance along with a couple of other attachments. Maybe slightly used or slightly damaged. Guessing 5'.
Might check around TS, or let me know and I can see if they still have that one. Might be there this weekend.

I've got a 6' King Kutter that has been fantastic. Paid $1200 for it 3 years ago, (in the spring, so no mark down). This is a great time to buy - end of the season, time to clear out the old stock.

Take a look a Northern Hydraulics catalog for tiller in $850 range. there is also a Carico tiller sold in farms stores in the south for similar amount.

I was just quoted $1,600 for a small (42") LandPride tiller. The only real justification I can see with paying that much is you hope there will be parts available later. It's the lack of parts support that is stopping me ordering the $850 tiller from Northern Tool ...

Does anyone have experience with the Caroni brand tillers. They are sold by Agri-supply and you can buy a 48" tiller for ~840 plus shipping or a 56" for `880.
I also have a B7500HST and am looking for a tiller.
Unfortunately our local Central Tractor sold out of them during their going out of business sales before I could get there

There are a couple of thread out there regarding Caroni - it's worth doing a search. <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.tractorbynet.com/cgi-bin/compact/showflat.pl?Cat=&Board=implement&Number=39785&page=&view=&sb=&o=&vc=1>Here's a thread</A> that mentions the tiller specifically.

dmp,
I have a Caroni tiller that I purchased from Agri-Supply in the early to mid 90's. I have had no problems with it at all. I bought it to till a 1.5 acre lot. It did a fantastic job. Following that, I have used it in my garden as well as for other landscaping projects.

During 1996 we had an ice storm in NC where the ice was so thick that the scraper blade on my MF 35 would not break thru the ice. I used the tiller to till the ice so I could scrape it off the drive way and road. Although my neighbors thought I was crazy, it worked very well.

RLK,

I give you high marks for your tiller useage. That was a darn good idea. Not sure I would have thought of that, never been presented with the problem, nor had a tiller to use the solution. This TBN brain trust comes through again. Don't have a tiller, don't have ice, but sure would like both so I could play./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

They sure do seem handy. Cedarranch posted a picture of a sidewalk he built by tilling the path and pressing flagstones into the soft dirt. I showed that to my wife because we need similar walks to the outbuildings. We're also having some additions done to the house and I could use a tiller to repair some of the incredible ruts the gravel and cement trucks have made. Plus she wants some large flower beds prepared, and there's always the vegetable garden. All this stuff added together to convince my dear, sweet financial officer that I should get one next month. I'll probably go with a KK from Orschelin's, which I guess is similar to the TSC chain. If you look at the price of a good quality walk behind tiller, the prices don't hurt nearly so much, and the walk behind will often beat the heck out of you doing maybe a 2-3 foot swath.

I have a Craftsman 5 hp walk behind with the front tines and I have a 660 JD for my JD 4400,I have used tillers to prep areas for sidewalks, getting basements ready to pour, footers, anything beats using a matic and pick if all possible. I have even used it for ice covered driveways.

I saw a 6' KingKutter at Farm/Family over the weekend, 20% off the $1200 list price, ($960). I have the same model, it's been worked hard with no problems, (I till at least 5 acres/year of very heavy clay).
