<font color=blue>Does anyone have experience with the Caroni brand tillers</font color=blue>

There are a couple of thread out there regarding Caroni - it's worth doing a search. <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.tractorbynet.com/cgi-bin/compact/showflat.pl?Cat=&Board=implement&Number=39785&page=&view=&sb=&o=&vc=1>Here's a thread</A> that mentions the tiller specifically.

dmp,
I have a Caroni tiller that I purchased from Agri-Supply in the early to mid 90's. I have had no problems with it at all. I bought it to till a 1.5 acre lot. It did a fantastic job. Following that, I have used it in my garden as well as for other landscaping projects.

During 1996 we had an ice storm in NC where the ice was so thick that the scraper blade on my MF 35 would not break thru the ice. I used the tiller to till the ice so I could scrape it off the drive way and road. Although my neighbors thought I was crazy, it worked very well.

RLK,

I give you high marks for your tiller useage. That was a darn good idea. Not sure I would have thought of that, never been presented with the problem, nor had a tiller to use the solution. This TBN brain trust comes through again. Don't have a tiller, don't have ice, but sure would like both so I could play./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

They sure do seem handy. Cedarranch posted a picture of a sidewalk he built by tilling the path and pressing flagstones into the soft dirt. I showed that to my wife because we need similar walks to the outbuildings. We're also having some additions done to the house and I could use a tiller to repair some of the incredible ruts the gravel and cement trucks have made. Plus she wants some large flower beds prepared, and there's always the vegetable garden. All this stuff added together to convince my dear, sweet financial officer that I should get one next month. I'll probably go with a KK from Orschelin's, which I guess is similar to the TSC chain. If you look at the price of a good quality walk behind tiller, the prices don't hurt nearly so much, and the walk behind will often beat the heck out of you doing maybe a 2-3 foot swath.

I have a Craftsman 5 hp walk behind with the front tines and I have a 660 JD for my JD 4400,I have used tillers to prep areas for sidewalks, getting basements ready to pour, footers, anything beats using a matic and pick if all possible. I have even used it for ice covered driveways.

I saw a 6' KingKutter at Farm/Family over the weekend, 20% off the $1200 list price, ($960). I have the same model, it's been worked hard with no problems, (I till at least 5 acres/year of very heavy clay).
