I have a 2520 with an I-Match and a 5'KingKutter tiller. My shaft overlap is 5". Is this enough? The manual calls for 6". I purchased a pto adapter but if I use it I will need to cut the shaft down for the shortest distance. The manual is not clear on where the 3" cleareance is measured. It says from the u-joint shield but is that from the black ring or the flared part. Any help would be appriciated

In most cases the working position (when implement is engaged) is where you need the most overlap. Since all modern tractors have the pto shaft mounted low the implements pto shafts are shorter and have more overlap when these implements are lowered. Raising the implements up for transport lengthens the shafts which tends to decrease your overlap.

What you want to do is find the place where the pto tube is the shortest length as you cycle the 3 pt hitch, be careful that you stop if the pto is going to bind up (running out of stroke). If it does start to bind you will need to cut the shafts down equal amounts. What you want to do is find where the shaft is at its shortest length and then trim the drivelines equal amounts so that you have the 3 inches of play, this allows you to disconnect the pto shaft as it needs this much for the coupling.

When the implement is fully raised or fully lowered you want to make sure you have at least 5 or 6 inches of overlap.

The more overlap you have, the better. Lowers the chance you have of twisting the drive torque tubes. Ken Sweet
