I have a B6000 with a FEL, ballast box, and a plow. Now all I need is a rotary tiller that will go on the 3-point. The problem is....the PTO goes opposite rotation from the rest of the world ! Apparently, the ONLY tiller that will work on this tractor is the one originally designed for it. I suspect if these can be had from Kubota (which has yet to be determined), the price would probably be high enough to send one looking for other options. Would like to find a used one, but haven't had much luck. I believe there was a "reverser" available for these backwards PTO's, but haven't been able to find any of these, either. Presumably, with such a "reverser", any ordinary tiller will work on my tractor, which would also solve the problem. Any advise from the participants in this forum would be greatly appreciated. Suppose you got a "regular" tiller and reversed all the tines and put it on your tractor. It would rotate in the "reverse" direction but the tines would be cutting in the right direction - like the reverse rotation mode of that walk-beind I rented. Just a wild thought - don't know if the rest of the tiller's drive train could take the stress....

Almost all gear boxes are designed to take the majority of the torque from one direction. If you reverse the direction of the power input, you will working against the weaker side of the design. By placing the pinion gear where it is, it tends to help pull the gears and the housing together. If it is reversed then the gears will try to pull away from each other. That can cause the housing and or the gears to break when under power.

Good point, JerryG. In addition, I don't know whether it's a straight gear drive, or whether it's a chain drive like my Bush Hog, but with the automatic tensioner on the chain designed to run one direction, I'm not sure what might happen if you tried to run it the other direction.

I believe that I saw a PTO reverser for a B-6000 recently advertised for sale on this site's classifieds. Either here or on Ebay. I'd go that route first. Then you could use other PTO implements too.

Don't try to reverse direction on a tiller not made for it. I have a new BX and was going to use my old B6000 tiller on it, but it won't work. You have to find a reversing gearbox or buy the correct tiller. There are posts dating back a year or so about the old reversing gearboxes for the B6000 tractors. It used to be about $300. I am selling my B6000 2WD next spring along with the Woods belly mower and Kubota tiller as a package. If you want another B6000, it is in real nice condition.
Thank, all, for responding to the tiller question. I have determined that I don't want to be the "Guinea Pig" for the attempt at driving one backwards. It would probably cause some scrap metal to be produced. I will keep an eye on the classifieds. JEFF: Let me know when you are going to sell your 2WD, depending on your location, maybe I can buy it and sell what I don't need. Meanwhile, if anyone comes across reverser or B6000 tiller, let me know. Again, always listening to good advise / ideas. Thanks.

The tiller I have for my 2710 had instructions for reversing the direction of the tiller. most right angle gear boxes can be turned over to reverse direction of the out put shaft. I have also seen that some tillers turn in the direction of travel and some turn in the direction away from travel. At the local machine shop I work with we have had more then one discussion on this topic. My tiller is set up to turn in the direction of travel but im temped to try it in the other direction to see the difference.
