I may purchase a tiller for the 3 point on my 28 hp MF. Anyone have a suggestion as to size? The ground is completely void of any rocks, pretty much 100% DG. I want to break up the sod which is about 8" deep.

I don't know what 100% DG is but soil conditions really make a big difference in what size you can use.

I have a 50" tiller, use it on a 24hp tractor with 19PTO hp and it heavy moist clay soil it will bog the engine. In dry sandy loam or black loam soil it will churn right through the soil & the sod without any problems. I also have a 30hp tractor, in the same heavy moist clay soil it works great with the 50" tiller but I wouldn't want much larger.

Decomposed Granite - it's fairly common out west (Nevada, California, etc.)

I'm running a 60" King Kutter gear-driven tiller on my 24 Hp (PTO) B2910 in heavy clay soils here. It does fine provided you don't bite off more than it can chew.

Yes DG stands for decomposed granite, actually its more like black sandy loam close to the sod.

How do you like that KK? would you buy one again? I see that TSC carries them. 5 hp/ft sounds like what you guys are all saying, so a 60" would be about right and is ~ $1200 at TSC. I think it will be reletively easy going in our ground.

I'm running a CCM M-160 (58") tiller in heavy clay, rocky NE soil without problems with my NH TC29DA tractor (29/23+ HP). Jay
