Tiller Tiller Size???

I am going to upgrade tillers and was going to see what the forum thought. My DX33 is shown on the Case NH web site as being rated for both the 60" and the 72" inch tiller. I am looking at the 60" King Kutter but thought if the tractor would handle the 72" I may go that way. I will be doing mainly gardens and some yard prep as well. there will be times when I will be busting up sod as well. I appreciate any and all impute!

The only consideration I can see is how fast do you want to do the job? Obviously, the 72" will do it faster, but is heavier. I don't know if that would be a problem for you, but most likely not.
If it's rated for 72" and you don't mind paying the difference, get the job done faster with the 72"
Now, in some cases, you'll find that less is more, less surface area to cut means faster cutting, but in the case of tillers such as these, I don't think that will be a factor. If you like the larger tiller, go for it. There should be no problem.

The only real concern I had was with churning sod for a new garden.....but then heavier might be better in that case. Tha is what my four footer suffered from, just wasn't heavy enough and bounced terribly when trying to till for a new seeding in clay soil. Five foot will cover the tracks of the DX and that was the main concern and I know I have enough power to handle anything with it. Appreciate the impute!

There can be a wide gap in weights between tillers of the same size depending on how thick the metal is they're made from. I think I'd buy the heaviest 60" tiller I could find for your purposes. You probably wouldn't have any problem with the 72", but then, maybe you'll need to get between some tighter spaces at times that the 60" would be better suited to. John
