Your last post was exactly right. The testosterone effect drives the "bigger's got to be better" mentality. Folks need to very carefully weigh the pros and cons when considering equipment at the outter reaches of the tractor capability.
I apologize for my poor behavior in the last post - I miss interpreted what you were trying to say.
Next time, I'll think twice and write once.

i never thought antthing that you posted was out of line. I have broad shoulders.

What bothers me is the lack of common sense with some of these posts that make recommendations. But i guess that is matter of opion also.

Whoa fellers!

I didn't want to start a mini-feud. (although I am glad to see that things look to be smoothed over).
I know that I am asking to go beyond my tractor specs but this is just to get a feel if I should RENT a bigger tiller because I can't find a small tiller to rent. I know that things are designed with safety factors and going from a 42" to 50" spec seems like a small increment. I just wanted to see if people said absolutely no way it can be done (which would surprise me because as I mentioned in my original post, JD recommends the 550 for their 4100 which has a lower 3 pt lift capacity than the B1700).

Dang I think a few people need to get outside and get rid of their cabin fever, I've noticed everyone getting edgey for the past two weeks.

JD calculates its limits different than Kubota. Everytime I go to a JD dealer and look at some piece of equipment, they dig out a book and tell me my kubota is too small for the equipment. So then i tell them my Kubota is rated at such and such and then they tell me how JD calculations are proper and others are wrong. It is for that I always say use the tractor manual sizing for equipment. For If you have trouble and you use the suggested equipment on your tractor and it is under warrenty, you may get it fixed.
