How well will a tiller incorporate "green manure" into the soil.Thinking about getting one for food plots despite very rocky soil.

Is tiller tine speed fixed basded on PTO speed or do usually have different ranges in gearbox. I would assume PTO speed would usually be 540.

Yes a tiller will work just fine for incorporating fertalizer into the soil.

Tillers are based on 540rpm. Ya really don't want to go over that speed. You can go slower if ya want.

Some "tillers" (Howard Rotovators) have multi-speed gear boxes. MOST are fixed ratio, based on pto speed. MOST are plenty fast at 540 rpm. I just walked in the house from an afternoon of tilling. My MF150 likes an engine rpm that's not quite 540 rpm on the pto. (probably around 450/475 rpm?) The tiller spins plenty fast at that engine speed and doesn't bounce the tiller around nearly as bad if (WHEN) I hit rocks.

Flintlock, I have a six ft KK and used to have a five, both work REAL well, I've planted buckwheat a good bit and turned it under as a soil builder, I'll brush hog it first then till it in, first time I tried it I had a soil test done a few months afterwards, I was pleasantly surprised at the nutrients it adds back to the soil
