Who makes a good 7 or 8' tiller that would work and hold up best behind a 1963 John Deere 4010 diesel?

IF you want something much better than a KK, then look at some of the HD Maschio tillers…

Will you be tilling professionally for others? How many acres per year?

If tilling just your own land, how many acres or how many hours per year?

Probably about 6 hours a year. 2 acres at most

What it's really about, is how many bigger stones you hit, or how much trash you have in your soil.

Big stones are VERY hard on a tiller...

The King Kutter (professional) TG-G-84-YP tiller can be bought for WAY less than $3500.
Blain's Farm & Fleet (Janesville, WI.) sells it for $2449.99, but is currently out of stock.
Blain's is always great on KK pricing.
OP might want to call them to check on availability.
Their shipping is very reasonable.
Blain's may even have a store near the OP in Illinois.

Kuhn is about the best name in tillers. The 62 series is very tough and well made. I just got a 53 series that is 38 inches wide to go behind my Kubota B2601 and that is a match made in gardener heaven. The 62 series is made in France and the 53 is made in Brazil but I can't tell any lowering of quality in the Brazilian made tiller. Neither tiller wraps stuff on the rotar. That alone is worth the extra coin at my age. I used to have to get down and hack at my JD 660 for half a hour after I tilled very much with it. My 6284 Kuhn is ready for new tines and I've never had to clean the tines in the 7 years I've had it.

I was looking at this Bush hog tiller until I realized it was 74" instead of 84"

Are the Bush hog tillers any good?

For the price it could get me by. I hate to run something narrower than the tractor but for no more than I would use it, it might not be bad.

74" bush hog tiller needs main tiller shaft or shortened and machined. Good gear box, tines, gears, frame and PTO shaft.

My brother has one, it's been a pretty good home owner tiller, but it did get bent up a little when he tilled a rocky field. I bet it's at least as good as a KK tiller.
