I have a TC29D with about 120 hrs on it. The tilt steering will not stay in any position but vertical. The column seems to have pressure when I pull it back, but it doesn't stay angled. The telescoping mechanism will lock fine. I have read the previous thread discusions but I am unclear if it is the same problem. I tried the lubricant approach, but without any success. I read the repair manual, but it seems to imply that the valve in the end of the cylinder relieves the pressure when depressed by the lever, but this seems backwards. Can anyone clarify this? I don't want to replace the cylinder if i don't need to. Also, is this something I can do with the repair manuals, or am I better to have the dealer do it? I have been reading the boards for about a year and they have been very helpful with my projects, particularly the boxblade discussions. Thanks.

Sounds like your experiencing a problem I and others on here have had as well. There are a couple threads which go into length on topic. I am not planning on doing the work myself as it is warranty work which will get done during fall service.

I had this problem on my TC40D. It is the little control valve on the end of the cylinder rod, but it is har to see if it's stuck down. I sprayed half a can of WD-40 where the plastic lever contacts the cyliber rod end and tapped on it for about half an hour and it finally released. I then sprayed it with some grease and have not touched it since and never will again. Boy was I pissed!

Hey Paul, didn't I just see you on the country side!
