I have been trying to get by using the FEL to move the big snow but its just getting out of control. I have about 200 - 300 yards to clear so I can get hay to my horses. The snow here in SE MN is DEEP. With the drifts and all the snow is 4 - 5' in places. I was out this morning moving the drift next to my barn door which is as tall as I am (about 6') and there is just no place left to put it.

I have a price on a new Farm King 740 with hydraulic chute control complete with hoses and cylinder for $3100 delivered. Is the price high, low or about right? The next best price I have found is about $3500 and I would have to go get it.

from other prices posted in the past it seems the magic price point for blowers is about 3K yes. (you didnt mention how wide it is)

A snow blower is very nice and serves a single purpose. I use my boxblade and loader and it serves me well. At my in-laws I use a plow on the front end loader and a rear blade. I do like to use the rear blade the most as it's very fast when you get going, both pushing and pulling snow.

You didn't mention if you have a cab or not. Sorry I can't help you on the price check. You may want to contact some of the dealers on this site for pricing.

Just for reference ...... I paid $2200 for a 51" Meteor 3 pt type with electric control chute.

Your price sounds good.

Seems like a good price but every area is different. I did some checking last year (I am in Canada) and not that much difference, depending on size of course. Thought about how often we do get lots of snow and felt it would not get used often. We had 5ス feet last year, most since 1996. This year we had the warmest January on record and going to cut lawn next week. My FEL on the CK35 moved the snow OK but you can run out of room to pile it. If we had lots of snow every winter I would buy one for sure. Have a walk behind snow blower and like how it gets it 10-15 feet off the road and walking areas.
This is what I had been using before getting the tractor in summer of 2008. Good luck with your purchase and post some pics of you using it.

Sorry I forgot the specs...
Tractor MX5000, open station, 44hp (pto). The Farm King 740 has a 74" working width.
As far as the open station goes I don't consider it a problem. I worked as a ski patroler for many years and have all the equipment to stay warm in the worst of weather. I won't argue that a cab would be great for this application but not necessary. For other things I do it would have to come off so thats why I went open station.

I think you have a real good price for that blower, delivered.:cool:

I have a used Farm King 73" blower (bought it used) and find the construction to be solid and the operation good, though mine has the manual shute operation.

I think you will be very happy with the purchase - wish I could afford a new one:D:D:D

Cheers

I've had a variety of blowers and tractors for 10yrs or so. Bought the tractor i have now and had to wait a week before I got the snowblower that I have now. We got about 6 inches of snow that week. i have a 700ft driveway plus a few other areas to clear. It was a major pain for me to clear it with the FEL. So i understand your frustation.

You will love the blower once you get it. just be aware(yes i know its obvious) but you can and will throw some rocks and debries that you didn't realize was there. I haven't broke out any windows yet, but stuff will travel. But this will make quick work, once you get used to it.

One yr i had an open cab and wore my snowmobile helmet and gear. Might look a little odd, but it worked.

And, yes i agree that the price on the blower is a good one. Good luck.

Just picked up a meteor 75' model for $2700. In two hours I had the 3' snow banks on my 900' drive way cleared. Awesome attachment.

Get this one... it will do the job... :)

Sounds like it's more a question of "which one shall I buy" not "should I buy" but don't expect a great deal now that we have had all these storms this year. I doubt seriously that come the Spring thaw Implement dealers will have any blowers left to let go with bargain basement prices.

Two years ago I bought a very nice 60" 3 point Meteor (NEW) for $1400 towards the end of the season. Snowfalls overall were considered average but some heavy localized areas were noted. Around here we got plastered with snow. That made for a good buy for me.

One more storm and inventorys could dry up. Good luck to you and I hope you find one you like.

Last fall I paid $3400 for a 74" Blizzard with hydraulic chute. We had so much snow last winter that I was hard pressed to keep up with it. I wanted that snow as far off into the woods as I could get it. Well the Blizzard does that, must put light snow forty feet off into the woods. Wouldn't you know though this year snow is in short supply.

I have thought about this a great deal. $3K + for an attachment that gets used a few times per year and some years not much if any seems like a lot.
It just that when I built the new pasture and shelter I didn't consider the fact that i can not load up the shelter with enough hay to get me through the winter. of course the first year wintering the horses in the new pasture we end up with more snow than I have seen here in years.

I didn't think there was ever an occasion where you only got snow a few times a year in Minnesota!! :p

Actually we do get our fair share but I have and ATV that is really good at cleaning up the small stuff. The problem is that after a few 4" - 6" snows I now have banks lining the drive way and then the wind starts blowing and your drifted in.

You can find alot of blowers like that up here in North Dakota used for 800-1500 dollars. Sure they are 10 years old or a little more but they work well. As far as new goes, I would say the price is fair.

Picked up the same blower last year for $2100. It was slightly used ( 10 hours ) & drove 250 miles to get it. It has hydraulic chute control & I'm very happy with it.

Just a quick update on the snow blower purchase.
I got a Buhler/Farm King 740 (green). I am very happy with the way its built and how well it works. I could not get it painted to match the tractor but I don't really care as long as it does what it's supposed to.
