Time for an oil change

/ Time for an oil change #11
The oil in a few of my diesels does not turn black right away, others do as soon as you start them up. I think it has to do with how completely the old oil drains out. On those that to not turn black right away, they do in fairly short order maybe 10 hours or so. So as was mentioned, black oil in a diesel is normal.
Yep, I never change oil based on the color. My oil changes are based on hours of service according to the owners manual or annually, which ever comes first.;)

If not sure be safe contact dealer...like old Fram ad "You can pay me know or pay me later"

I run either Motorcraft or Delo400LE with a K&N filter HP-1004 filter on my D-905E (BX2200). Been doing that for years, and years, and well, years. No issues.

And yes, the oil should look like black runny coal.

It SHOULD NOT smell like diesel fuel or coolant. It should smell like diesel exhaust.

I love changing oils in diesels... :)

If P/N HH150-32094 is the correct Kubota oil filter, than it crosses to a Wix 51064. NAPA P/N would be 1064 as they use Wix filters.

Used Messick's and Wixfilters.com to find the above.

If the link works, it will also show you the wix air and fuel filters. WIX Filters - Products Catalog by Application.

Added in edit: The link doesn't work completely. Fuel: 33389 Air: 46270

Regardless of the oil brand, suggest using one rated for diesel.

Our 220D and 240D Benz oils would be coal black. Not a problem with older engines. Our 2010 VW TDI oil got fairly dark by the time the 10k mile oil change came around. The oil on the Isuzu diesel never really got that dark at 50 hours and is not that dark after about 82 hours on its first oil change and about its 2nd or 3rd year on this change at 50 hours. The 2025R's oil on the dipstick is a little bit dark now into its 2nd year and about 92 hours (plan to change it at 100 unless it gets too late in the year).

Based on my experience with the recommended 5w30 Castrol on the TDI over its 6 oil changes, that oil is what I now use in the 2025R and the Isuzu. I use 0w20 in my 3 gas engined vehicles.

I appreciate all the replies, I went to dealer today and yes the part # you gave me for filter is correct, he also sold me 15W-40 Kubota oil, it was 22.00 gallon, he suggested it as what they use in house.

The filter was 9 sumpthin so good price, I also bought an air cleaner. He was not sure I dont think of what to use in my transmission drain/change. I need to re-read what the operators manual says about that.

I change the oil on my tractors every 100 hours or 6 months. I write the next change hours and date with a felt pen on the filter housing that is visible. The reason I do it based on date as well as hours is that during the winter it gets quite a bit of brief start and warm but never really gets hot leading to condensation. So basically it gets oil and filter changed twice a year. In the fall and the spring unless it is being used a lot then the hours catch up and it gets it then.

Have done this since the 2550 was new and I have never had a problem in the first 5000+ hours. Also maintain the fuel filters and keep the fuel tank full in the winter to avoid condensation. I also adjust the valves as recommended.

x2 on the valves. A lot of owners forget that basic maintenance item. UNLESS it's hydraulically lashed then it's maintenance free.

I know on my D905-E, it is every 800 hours to check and adjust them.

It takes but a few minutes.
