Time required to season wood

/ Time required to season wood #11
ive got a high sunny spot, faceing south west and my property gets good wind all year round (enough to run a 5kw wind turbine)

if cut and stacked by the end of april, its good to go by that winter. I shoot for sizes no bigger than would fit through a 4" hole give or take. id split a 4" limb in half.

Good idea schmism on the small wood. I try and split a variety of sizes as I experiment with the different species. In the end though my stackside chopping block gets a lot of use chopping down the splits to about the size you describe. Maybe its the new stoves but my modern stove seems to prefer a full load of the smaller stuff over a couple of big splits.

Shorter lengths and smaller splits will always dry faster. The last few years I have had great results stacking my wood on a long row of pallets running east west with lots of wind and full sun. The pallets only allow two rows of wood so the wind can actually blow through the curing firewood.
