Yep... Pacific Gas and Electric plans power shutoffs to 25,000 Monday in the name of safety.
And CA just passed a law banning the sale of gas powered generators (plus lawn mowers, weed eaters, chainsaws, leaf blowers) in 2024. Should be entertaining to watch the news in 2.5 years.

For years I was the Canary in the Coal mine posting updates coming down the pike..

Several let me know it was a waste of bandwidth…

My only point is what happens in California RARELY stays in California.

We already have bans on gas weed whackers and blowers.

At the time the public was assured it would not apply to chainsaws…

I own quality battery tools but mandatory clearing hillside acreage with a battery is folly…

Good luck finding a battery powered generator! I predict 2023 will be a banner year for gas generator sales in CA!

I've already converted to battery powered weedeater and leaf blower. I have both gas and battery chainsaws. Each has their purpose. I just hate when the government forces anything down our throat, in our arms etc.

I do find the new strategy of just "Turning off Power" as a prevention to wild fires to be a bit absurd. They don't do that up in Oregon, yet..... I did a solar/grid inter-tie and now I'm thinking this was a mistake, cause the system doesn't work with out grid power. I've thought about doing back feeding, but of coarse that is illegal in my area, even if all the neighbors don't even give it a second thought, they just plug in their gens and a male to male after turning off main breakers to grid power. I have to deal with lots of extension cords run into the house, which drives The Wife crazy. Ultimatly, a transfer switch is in order. :)

Is the CA ban just for petrol (gasoline) generators or diesel too?
With the right inverter a solar array can run as a backup system with a small or even no batteries. So far our solar system with lead acid batts has taken care of all outages in the last four years with no need for the generator.

Apparently propane and natural gas are classified differently?

Of course some are required to have generators such as hospitals and critical communication infrastructure...
