Uncle Hulka: Good point. I've found some things to be easy to find online about tractors and others not. The whole weight thing is one of them.

JerryK: Thanks Jerry. The research I've done seems to agree with the more weight is better argument. So many tractors now are very light. Seems odd to have to buy a light tractor and then pay to have the weight added back on. I'd prefer to start off heavy. My activity list has been a tough thing. I know I'd like to do some farming type ground engagement. Not sure exactly when. Not this year for sure. Test drives are important but not real world. I tried some pretty light tractors ~2700 lbs. They seemed fine. It's too late when you are in the middle of a field mowing tall grass and hear the engine bog down or are faced with a bunch of snow and all four wheels spin every time you push into it. These are things I wish there was more information about online. Maybe we need a "what my tractor can/cannot do thread".

Thanks everyone for your insights. Looks like buying day will be this month if everything goes well. I'll keep you updated.

Iv been around these since they were 4500s and 4510s..... and every year the model has progressed to now 5545 and 2555.. 5545 would take my money with no hesitation.

I agree. All things being equal, bigger + heavier = increased capability.

With that in mind, I have to point out that the 2555 is the largest, highest horsepower tractor that Mahindra offers with HST. I don't know if this makes a difference to you or not, but it was this fact that steered me towards my 2555. Not trying to sway you one way or another, but you should know all the facts when making your decision.

The 2555 is the higher hp tractor but the 5545 is a much larger tractor in every other field no matter what the specs show. Its got about 1500lbs on the 2555 just the tractor alone and the loader/loader parts/brackets are much heavier. Even though the 2555 shows more lift at the pins when you put them to work side by side the 5545 is able to lift and safely move much more with the added weight and balance. Also a much stouter rear lift setup with heavy lift arms and cat1/cat2 capability were the 2555 is limited to cat1

Ahh yes I see you said HST that is the highest HP tractor they have in HST.

Plus, the 2555 HST can come with a cab, FEL, mid-pto, and a 78" front snowblower. For wusses like me to order.... The 2565 [65hp@2300rpm] is a nice tractor, too, besides the 5545... The 2565 shuttle is a lot more capable than the 2555 in regards to larger tires, bigger frame, better FEL/3pt [cat2]capacity... Decisions, decisions, decisions......

Sad, isn't it...!!! Sure glad I have that all behind me and I can sleep soundly since my tractor order is already in the pipeline... No staying awake wondering, worrying, pondering... getting up to re-check stuff online or staring at the brochures.... [ you ordered yours, too, right..?? ]

Yeah but now you have to wait for the tractor to show up. For me that was even worse.
