Uncle Hulka: Good point. I've found some things to be easy to find online about tractors and others not. The whole weight thing is one of them.
JerryK: Thanks Jerry. The research I've done seems to agree with the more weight is better argument. So many tractors now are very light. Seems odd to have to buy a light tractor and then pay to have the weight added back on.
I'd prefer to start off heavy. My activity list has been a tough thing. I know I'd like to do some farming type ground engagement. Not sure exactly when. Not this year for sure. Test drives are important but not real world. I tried some pretty light tractors ~2700 lbs. They seemed fine. It's too late when you are in the middle of a field mowing tall grass and hear the engine bog down or are faced with a bunch of snow and all four wheels spin every time you push into it. These are things I wish there was more information about online. Maybe we need a "what my tractor can/cannot do thread".
Thanks everyone for your insights. Looks like buying day will be this month if everything goes well. I'll keep you updated.
