In a lot of the larger cities around here, they include the sewer on with the water.

I have only water. We dont live anywhere close to the city, but still get the city water. My bill usually runs me around $20 and that is between 3000 and 4000 gallons per month.

Back in the city before we got the front loading washer we would have water bills in the $100-125 range. About $15 was trash pickup. The remainder was water and sewer. If you want water you pay the town. And you pay the sewer bill. You cannot have a well.

Even taking away half of $100 for sewer our water bill was still more than cable and Internet. They have raised the water rates quite a bit since we have left. My guess is that water rates have gone up higher than cable. They really pushed up the rates during the droughts we had a few years ago to get people to conserve water. So people did.

But since there are fixed costs on producing the water and handling waste water some of the cities had problems with TOO much conserving. :D They had to raise rates again because people were not using enough water to pay for the systems.

Later,
Dan
