Dealer Tin shed tractor dealers

Idaho has the best Elk seasons. We hunted the first week of the black powder over by Kellogg but that was on the back of 2 straight weeks of white tail hunting and I was worn out, I saw a couple bulls but they were on the run and it was late in the day.
Shop was in one piece when I got back but leaving the boys in charge is like handing the keys to a teenager. It might be ok or it might be the end of your dealership as you know it :) Other than that everything is great!

Get that spike!!

I gotta get that Spike. My hunting this year was OK with a black bear, white tail and Turkey but the elk got by me. I saw more elk and had more chances than most but just got skunked. Either to early before sun up and not legal to shoot or just could not get close enough during the daylight.

I am going archery next year. Those guys got it easy walk out bugle and waalaa get a big 6x6. Well, not that easy but I would like to do archery as it looks great.

Since I to am a bit nervous about leaving things in others hands for extended periods of time I went out for only a couple of days and when I was working I would go out early and get into work by opening.

I had a black bear and a big buck (well about 22" spread and over 180 lbs. not huge but very respectable) here at the store. This is major hunting country and when you have horns or a bear on the lot it brings every hunter and his brother in to look. Great way to get to talk to potential customers as they always say, "so tell me about these tractors".

One of my customers took some pictures, not real good ones, of him hoisting up a big buck with his 2740.

Did you get your deer?

Yup, got the deer and turkey but no bear and no elk. This year I spent most of my time helping my friends and my son get their animals. It is kind of neat to take my son hunting where I hunted as a kid. Although I can say I was hunting regularly when I was 10. This was my son Alex's first year and he is 14 and I was a bit nervous. He is a calm boy and an avid Boy scout but he grew up in the city with X box and road signs. Not the same as hiking 5 miles in the snow through the Rocky Mountains. He did fine though. He never believed me that I saw bucks all the time and got them close enough to spit at. The first hour of the first day I called in a decent buck within 20 feet, Alex was shaking so bad I thought the deer might hear him before he saw him. :) Only takes one experience like that to get you hooked and he is definitely hooked. He wanted to shoot it sooo bad but I held him off. After the buck left he was a bit upset that I just let it go. The most important thing I wanted him to learn was that hunting and killing are two completely different things. You have to learn to hunt and appreciate trying to beat the animal at his own game on his home turf before you can kill. Shows no respect for the animal to have someone else call it in so you can shoot it. He finally called in his own deer a week later and harvested a nice little whitetail.

The turkeys on the other hand are getting out of hand. I counted 5 distinct groups on the ranch before fall season my estimate is somewhere around 600 turkeys. Last year there were around 400. For a bird that wasn’t here 10 years ago they are taking to mountain living with flair. I brought every person I could get that had a tag to come up for turkey this year. Opening day of fall season sounded like Afghanistan at the ranch. We took about 40 turkeys but by the end of the season I think there was more than my original count of 600.

Now it is ring neck season so if I can sneak out of the shop a couple hours before dusk I take the hound out and try to get a few up. YES I SAID HOUND. I know I am probably breaking all the laws buy hunting with something other than a lab or shorthair but I like hounds and my redbone gets up as many birds as my friends labs do. I will attach a pic. MAKA if you get tired of hunting horns come on down and we can bump up some roosters. Get ready to walk though, this isn’t South Dakota. J

Thanks guys. I am now waiting on a call from my tax man. He's supposed to run some numbers and advise me on the tractor and tax related issues (depreciation, and boring stuff like that). As of now, I'm leaning toward the established dealer. I visited with him, test drove a 5740 Montana, and came away favorably impressed.

As for the other posts, I'm also a hunter and have chainsaws too. So it is all good.
