Tiny Tach Rpm\'s

I just put a Tiny-Tach on my BX 2230, and the readings just do not seem right, it shows a warm Idle of 1280 rpm and a wide open throttle speed of 3400 rpm. What readings are other members getting? I did clean all the paint off the injector line and tighten the clamp securely.

Frank,

I have the BX2230 and my readings are very close to yours. Idle is between 1180 - 1250 and full throttle is 3400.

Dead on mine is 1280 3360

Thanks for the reply's. This is my first diesel and I thought the 3400 rpm reading was kind of high, but I did hear Kubota runs this engine at higher rpm's to get the rated HP.

Now, wait a minute. Are you saying a tiny tach sense lead wrapped around an injection line can sense the fule pressure pulses? this is a bit weird, I thought the T.T. worked on electrical spikes, picked up by inductance, because of the sense wire wrapped around the high voltage lead (spark plug lead). How can it sense fuel pressure spikes, or what is it sensing on a diesel? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

It most certainly counts fuel pressure pulses in the injector line. I believe the pick up is some sort of piezo electric device that converts motion to electric pulses similar to the thing that lights BBQ grills

That's why the diesel model comes with the fuel line transducer.
Mine just arrived yesterday and will be mounted this weekend!!!
