I have an old, old Australian penny somewhere. HUGE. Why so big? Pretty cool penny I have to admit.
I have no idea why the coin was so big at that time... it's from the period when we used the (Aus) pounds denomination We switched to the decimal/dollar decades ago.
But the old penny is still popular as a "two-up" coin used for gambling. "two-up", legally, can only be played in casinos and practically everywhere on ANZAC Day (clubs, pubs & RSLs).
I've got a "two-up" set, with spinner, with both pennies from 1957 which is my birth year = supposed to bring me luck. :2cents:
