I spent much of the day brushhogging with the Gearmore HD RC on the BX2200. The weeds were mostly two to four feet tall and most were tinder box dry. There are some noxious things in the mix, like Russian Star Thistle, but much of it is wild oats. The blades pulverize this stuff and the chaff floats around and makes the air into a concoction that resembles vegetable soup. I wear one of those painter's ventilator masks, sunglasses, goggles, and ear protection. I feel like I'm driving an undersea jet boat with all this stuff on and all the debis floating around me.
I've had the BX almost 7 years now and when I brushhog I have to wipe debris off the face of the screen in front of the battery every 5 minutes to prevent engine overheating. In only 5 min., the entire face of that screen is covered solid. I also have to stop every hour, open the hood, pull the inner screen, clean it, and take the long narrow nozzle on the shop vac. and vaccuum the entire face of the radiator. The entire face is completely plugged after an hour.
As I was cleaning the radiator today, I realized that the radiatior fan pulls a draft along the floorboard into that exterior screen. The floorboard is usually covered with debris from the brushhogging and I had never tried cleaning the floorboard along with the rest of the stuff, so I took a whisk broom and cleaned everything off. Voila, I was actually able to extend the period to two hours between stops to vaccuum off the radiator face!!
So, for those of you whom I know experience this same problem, keeping the floorboard brushed completely clean appears to slow down the flow of debris through the two screens on the way to clogging the radiator fins!!
