Some use windshield washer fluid for ballast in their rear tires. Is this safe? What are the effects of windshield washer fluid on the tires and rims?

Won't freeze.. not too hard on rubber.. not corrosive to metal.. etc.

Not as heavy as beetjuice/rimguard, or CACL.. etc.

Will rust bare metal, same as water, just won't freeze.

Straight Antifreeze, or do you mix it with water. Antifreeze could get kind of expensive at $6 a gallon.

What kind of ww solvent are you using that rusts metal?? So far I havn't seen an 'alcohol' based products that rust metal..., let alone, be corrosive to them.

I put WW fluid in my tires at about $1 per gallon, and figure 8# to the gallon. About 30 gal in each rear tire (Deere 4300). Just laid the tire down, broke the bead, and poured in the fluid until full.

There are other methods of getting the fluid into the tire as well, through the valve stem.

Can the adapter used to fill tube tires with liquid be used on tubless tires?I dont have to take mine off & break them down using the adapter.

kenmac,

You can use it on either one (adapter fits on garden hose). I had a post several weeks ago about this and the fellow TBN'ers said get it from TSC. I went and purchased one. Was quicker than trying to fill with a drill driven pump. These adapters are in the section of the store with the inertubes and tires. Hope this helps.

The reason I asked if the adapter would work on tubless tires is because beenthere said he broke the bead on his jd & added washer fluid.I thought he might have tubless tires & the adapter wouldn't workon tubless. Works great on tube tires.

Sorry for the delay, (had to finish my experiment). Here is a commom 10d nail after being dipped into a capful of freshly poured "X-TREME BLUE" ww fluid, with methyl alcohol, (as sold by Advanced Auto Parts), for 3 days, solid rust.
