Tire Carrying Capacity Less Than Trailer Carrying Capacity....What To Do?

Keep in mind, some of the weight on the trailer will be carried by the tow vehicle.

The easiest solution may be to remove the "tire sticker." :)

Sounds like a 9900 lb trailer, with 5200 lb axles. Which should handle your load, however the stickers values are odd. What length of trailer is it.

20 Feet.

Ok makes sense now. Trailer has a GVWR of 8800 lbs. Subtracting the weight of the trailer is how they arrive at 6500 lbs capacity. In short, you do not have enough trailer for your tractor.

I have never seen 4400 lb axles..... that's an odd one.

It more than likely has two 5200# axles but there is a weak link in the trailers frame so they derated it to 8800#. Subtract the trailers weight of 2300# and you have 6500# max payload.

Long story short no matter how heavy of tire you install it's only as strong as the weakest link and 8800# is the magic number. I see this all the time in my trailer business.

Sorry to say but it's time for a heavier trailer.

<snip>
Double axle trailer tag states maximum carry capacity of 8800 pounds.
Tire tag on trailer states maximum carry capacity of 6500 pounds.
Question.....Can I buy a different set of tires where carry capacity matches the higher trailer carry capacity?
This trailer is brand new and I am hoping different tires will bring it up in carry capacity.
Thanks for any input as I am tire ignorant ! :)
Did you deal with a salesman that said it would carry 8800 pounds? Or were you confusing gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) with payload capacity?
Is the trailer derated? Like others wrote that axle rating is odd, and it might be tagged 8,800 pounds to get under some law, usually they are 7,000lbs or 10,000 lbs.

Ameritrailer looks like a reputable builder maybe you can get a different sticker.

I will call them this week for more information. On their web site their flat bed trailers are sold under the Ranch King brand and their standard trailers in all lengths are listed with GVWR's of 7,000 pounds, 8,800 pounds,12,000 pounds and 14,000 pounds so the 8,800 pound GVWR is no mistake on the sticker.

I have an 18' car hauler trailer that is rated for 7000#. The trailer weighs 1500#, so I can carry a load of 5500#. Sounds like your's is similar, only a usable load of 6500#, the trailer may weigh 2300# empty, as others have said.
