Snow Attachments Tire Chains for my tractor?

Skyhook, my experience with the DUO chains was similar to DIXIEDOG's. I considered adding cross chains as you suggest (one supplier offers these as DUO ladder chains) but instead I modified them by adding DUO patterns as shown in this thread:

http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/attachments/268885-duo-chains-planned-modifications.html

and they now work great with virtually no slippage. However, I had to buy a chain tool and extra patterns and it was about a day's work.

If I was starting from scratch I would purchase something like the Aquilines. Other options I'd explore are Tellesfdal and Trygg. They have chains similar to the Aquilines.

Thanks for the link's KCO, I checked your old thread and those look nice.
I'll have to do something, just not sure what or when....may wait till spring, i don't know.

DIXIEDOG, those chains you first had that were no good for you,,
is what was given to me with the purchase of my JCB, I haven't installed them yet and may not,
but I was thinking, what about if I added Vbar strips of chain in "the void" area, there's a link there that could take a strip of Vbar chain, what are your thoughts on this?

If you already have them I would ask about trading them in toward a different style chain. You want a chain that maintains contact with the ice all the time....a studded chain will out perform them with ease. I don't like any chains that have voids for ice, even if you add some strips in the voids you'll still get that catch..slip...catch...slip pattern going on which is not good. I think most places would allow you to trade up if they are new chains.

No, there about a year old and came with the machine, so I'm stuck with them.
When and if I get around to ordering some vbar type chain to add to what I have, I'll post a few pics,
I'll take a few before and after shots, I have "5" links between the "H" patterns on mine, way too much I think, I'll bring those down to "3", so I'll have to open all the side links that hold the chain:confused2:
this should give me more of an overlap to the side tire, at least half way down, right now they overlap about 2 inches when I put them on.

Not really an attachment but I still hope you can help.
I'd like to put tire chains on my tractor because when I plow my road, I get some slipping going uphill. I thought I'd just try chains on the front to start with and if they solved my slipping problem I wouldn't have to spend the big money for rear chains. Any thoughts? Experiences?
Thanks,
Ray

I assume you will be usiting it on gravel driveways and lanes? If you'll be using it on asphalt or concrete or doing some road running, you will want to take that into consideration as chains can damage asphalt and concrete surfaces and can lessen ride quality while road running.
