this has been discussed quite a bit. I ran a 5083E with fronts chains for an entire year till i took a ride and bought rear chains. Currently running the l3400 with front 2 link v-bars for 5+ years on the fronts only and no issues. E=R-1's and the L=R-4's
I've been running front chains on L3800 for 2 years. Not so much for pulling traction but to keep the angled snowplow from pushing the front end sideways in heavy snow. It helps but I can slide the front over if I get too big a bite.
I finally bought a pair of chains for the front. I have chains on the rears, but once the driveway is snow packed, I sometimes have an issue with plowing. The front end won't turn as the wheels have no bite.
I installed them last night as I had to dig out a trailer I need, an we have a storm coming tomorrow. Big difference in traction pulling the trailer out, and it was not as bumpy riding as I thought it would be. Big test is plowing tomorrow.
