I got a hole in the turf tire on my B8200. The tire place wont work on the tire, which has tread, but a weather checked sidewall. So, here's my delima....

I want different tires. But, to switch to R1, I have to replace the front rim, because it is too wide. The rear rims are a bit wide, but will handle the R1 tire.

I would prefer R4, wich will fit my front rim. But, the shops say I have to change my rear rims to a 16.5 if I want R$ on the back. I thought they made R4 in 16"; doesn't a B2150 or B2710 run a 12.4-16 R4?

If I have to change rear rims, they want $187/ea!

I want R4, as I don't want a tire as aggressive as R1.

Any idea what size tires they run on B2150 and B2710? I think the B2150 runs the same size tires as my B8200.

Robert, call Steve Carver, he may have some old rims laying around. Gold Counrty has a lot of rims and tires laying around as well although getting a great deal there may be tough. I am considering down grading from my L48 to a removable loader type tractor, perhaps a L4610 or whatever comes out this week to replace it. I notice that the JD 110 comes with optional R3's that are not only 8 ply, but direct sizes for the R4's they replace. Basically they are R4's with a R3 tread. Here in the foothills where our soil has a lot of decomposed granite, the R4's get very good traction, I would think the R3's would as well. I'll be at Gold Country Tuesday to check the new models and will see if he has any used or new rims and if there are some prices, Rat...

I surfed a bit, and found that Goodyear makes a 12.4-16 R4, but they spec a 10" rim. I checked, and I have a 12" wide rim.

I wonder if that 2" difference would hurt anything. On Jeeps, I ran 33x12.50-15's on a 8" rim, which gave a bulgy sideewall that worked great on the rocks. I have friends that run the same tire, but on a 10" rim. It gives them a more flat sidewall, with less rim protection on the rocks, but they don't run the rocks often.

The tire is the same height as my turf, which means I can run my front R3's till I can afford to replace the fronts too.

I am tempted to just run them on the wider rim.

I get ok traction with the R3 when it is dry. But, at the first hint of moisture, the lose traction. My original dream was to get R4's on rims all the way around, and hold on to the R3's. Then I could swap as conditions/needs dictated. That was a bit optimistic $$$ wise...

I'll try Gold Country tomorrow. I got the tractor there; they are good folks.

Robert, Kubota never listed any R4's for the B8200, B9200 or B2150 as an option. That is not to say you can't use R4's but besides rim size you have to make sure the tire size you finally end up with doesn't disrupt the gear ratio between front and rear tires when in FWD.

The only R4's I can find that Kubota used in smaller size tractors was on the B20 and B21. The front used 23 x 8.50-12 R4 and 12.4-16 R4 for the rear. I can't find any 16.5" Kubota rims for the B series, old or new.

Robert,
Kub responded before I could but gave more detailed (and probably more accurate) information than I was planning to give.

I would recommend that (1) since you already have the turf setup, and (2) if you purchase additional tires & rims, that you consider purchasing Ag tires/rims as you second set. That way you have both "traction" extremes covered.

What type tire place? One that works on automotive tires or one that works on tractor tires? I can understand an automotive tire company refusing to repair a tire that has dry-rot. If you think that the tire is still safely usable, then I'd go to your local Co-Op or other buisness (tractor dealer?) that deals in tractor tires to see if they'll fix the tire.

The Goodyear and Firestone websites have great tire information. They lisst out the tire sizes, as well as the radius and diameters for each tire. I was able to find that the 12.4-16 Ag and R4 both match the R3 turf diameter I currently have.

I also found the front wheel diameters match for the R1, R3, and R4's.

The new B7500HST I bought this past Spring has 12-16.5 R4's on the rear and 23X8.50-14 R4's on the front.................chim

Chim, thanks for the update on the 16.5" rims. I don't have enough data on the newer B options as I do on the older ones.
Now that the R4's are so popular, it isn't any wonder but when the older B8200, B9200 and B2150's were new, the R4's were not listed as Kubota options.

Thank goodness for the internet. I'm glad it all worked out for you.

I just found the best deal seems to be throught one of the local Kubota dealers. They sell the R4 tire, installed, on new rims. From prices I've seen, they appear to be the best overall. And, I'll get the narower rim, which fits the tire better.

I know what I'm doing Friday, if this passes the approval of the boss and financial advisor. These things are pretty dang pricey...
