I use ratchet straps with axle straps. I don't like the idea of using the frame to secure the vehicle to the trailer. The vehicle can bounce and move around when you tie it down using the frame.
Maybe times have changed, but I knew several guys who hauled new cars for Anchor Motor Freight in the 70's & 80's. All those cars & pickups were secured to the trailer by the frame. The frames had holes in them for this purpose, where R hooks, T hooks or J hooks were inserted.
