The tires on my Yanmar F22D are definitely showing their age. Besides the rough and ugly aesthetics (i.e., huge cracks) on the apparent 'original' tires, one has a slow leak. Adding a tube my slightly delay the replacement of all four tires but not for long (tubes would soon be appearing from the cracks as the cracks are that bad!). I am starting to budget for tires but it appears that unless I come across a huge and expected windfall of cash, that the fronts and rears will be replaced as individual sets.
My question relates to R1 and R2 tires as I know nothing about the size differences, if any at all). My research into this are does not explain the outside diameter/rolling circumference differences in R1's and R2's. The R2's are on four wheels now and because the unit is 4WD, the replacement tires must maintain the proper size ratio. Can I, for example, replace both the rear R2's with R1's and LATER replace the front R2's with R1's without screwing up the ratio (the tire sizes will remain as 9.5-24 in the rear and the 7-14 size will remain up front).
Any guidance from those who have gone before me will be much appreciated. Are there any tire brands to steer clear of? Does Fredericks Tractor or Tullahoma Tractor sell tires (I am in Huntsville, AL)? - I looked on their websites and did not see specifically that they sell tires and I would like to avoid the pricey shipping charges if possible.
One more question... does anyone have any experience in using used aircraft tires on their tractors? I came across a few sites selling used airplane tires for use on farm equipment. I see that this option is for 2WD tractors only so please ignore this request.
Thanks,
Daryl Greene
