Yanmar F22D
The tires on my Yanmar F22D are definitely showing their age. Besides the rough and ugly aesthetics (i.e., huge cracks) on the apparent 'original' tires, one has a slow leak. Adding a tube my slightly delay the replacement of all four tires but not for long (tubes would soon be appearing from the cracks as the cracks are that bad!). I am starting to budget for tires but it appears that unless I come across a huge and expected windfall of cash, that the fronts and rears will be replaced as individual sets.

My question relates to R1 and R2 tires as I know nothing about the size differences, if any at all). My research into this are does not explain the outside diameter/rolling circumference differences in R1's and R2's. The R2's are on four wheels now and because the unit is 4WD, the replacement tires must maintain the proper size ratio. Can I, for example, replace both the rear R2's with R1's and LATER replace the front R2's with R1's without screwing up the ratio (the tire sizes will remain as 9.5-24 in the rear and the 7-14 size will remain up front).

Any guidance from those who have gone before me will be much appreciated. Are there any tire brands to steer clear of? Does Fredericks Tractor or Tullahoma Tractor sell tires (I am in Huntsville, AL)? - I looked on their websites and did not see specifically that they sell tires and I would like to avoid the pricey shipping charges if possible.

One more question... does anyone have any experience in using used aircraft tires on their tractors? I came across a few sites selling used airplane tires for use on farm equipment. I see that this option is for 2WD tractors only so please ignore this request.
Thanks,
Daryl Greene

You have to keep the designed overall distance around the tire the same. The tread does not mean alot. The tractor needs to have the same ratio between the front and rear tires to keep the four wheel drive from binding up. Most require use on loose surfaces for this reason. If you do not use the four wheel drive-run what you want. The last tires I bought were shipped in from India. Try to buy American made trailer tires; Can not be easily done as most molds have been shipped overseas.

They don't necessarily have to be the same size as what's on it if you do all 4 at the same time. You'll have to run some figures on a 'tire calculator' online somewhere. It'd be the same as in the auto industry with a car/truck running staggered wheel sizes. The ratio has to be increased the same amount on each tire to ease undue stress on the differential between the front and rear axles.

But it'd be easier to replace what you have with something the same overall OD.

If the tread is worn out i would replace them as pairs and not worry. the tires will slip on the dirt or gras what they need. Just dont drive on concrete, in 4wd. Im sure fredricks has tires or where ever else you mentioned. All small tire shops as well as big ones can buy tractor tires just see if they will mount them. I dont think you want aircraft tires , they will cost more and prolly not come in your size, as well as they will be smooth and not support your 4wd setup.

I persoinally would put a tube in them. I bet those tires will last longer than you think, onld american tractors have 40 year on tires on them and they sit out in the open which im sure yours does not.

Here is Titans worksheet, I would replace in pairs btw.

Titan International | America's Best Since 1898

I use the tire size charts and go from there on Titans website to compare rolling circumference from tire to tire.

For instance my tractor has 14.9 x 24 Titan high traction lug rears instead of 12.4 x 28 (for some odd reason unknown to me) and the circumference is close but not exact.

I can replace my 7 x 16 front rice tires with 7 x 16 Titan hi-traction lug and be just right @ 1.34 bias based on original tire sizes. ymmv as always

did you put those 14.9 x 24's on your tractor ? mine came with 12.4x28's

No I didn't it came that way they are a nice addition though nice and fat lots of traction and brand new but my fronts are not a match though and old.

Yup your 3110D and my 3810D took the same tires so I have no idea why they put the 14.9x24's on its anyone's guess?

Once I get the bias right it will run a lot quieter in 4wd, right now its fighting itself so i dont use 4wd unless I have to.

So, you should have 12.4 x28 rears & 7x16 fronts. for the ratio to be correct

Yeah thats right and thats the problem I dont like I said it came this way for some reason probably they got a deal on them if I was to guess.

I am sure now after talking to Titan that replacing the rice lug fronts with the new 7x16 Titans that match my rears I will retain the correct bias based on the 1.34% front lag the original tires computed out to be. fwtw
